Too many bad decisions. Some shocking disposal. A few had a mare, led by Stewart of all people. Henry doubters are silenced at least. Futures bright, hang in there peeps.
Stewart seemed panicked and hesitant. Set the tone.
His stats look ok but I didn’t think he led by example at all tonight.

There didn’t seem to be much system. Just kick the ball long at all costs. It almost worked, just so much lack of composure.

I have definitely cooled on the idea of Stewart as our next player, when he gets rattled, he is very rattled in games and as you said lacks composure. No idea who the next captain of the club is though.

That said next year we need to have Stewart as a full time mid.

In my opinion this has been Stewart in a nutshell this year, has looked at sea quite a lot down back and made a lot of poor errors, this has been very evident ever since his head knock. Not sure if the cliff is coming faster than expected but it certainly wasnt his best year and he would want to get back to form next year.

Dempsey earned his way into the team on VFL form and performed at a level all season to keep him in the team.

Mullin hasn't earned his way into the team on VFL form and has not performed at an adequate level.

Gifting games to players in finals is as bad as playing injured players, it costs you. Close game like tonight with fine margins, no way could you prefer Mullin to Tuohy.
Hell, id have taken SDK before Mullin tonight.

If Stengle and Mannagh didn't absolutely butcher the simplest of shots on goal we win. 12 points right there.....

Stengle was unsighted, Neale couldn't hold his marks, and a bunch of others fumbled and panicked their way through the game.....all players with far more background experience than Mullin.

He isn't the reason we lost.

Very true .

We rolled out a very similar mid field a few years back and won a flag.

But realistically the teams with a more even gun mids are going to get a hold of you.

I think we to lock down opp half backs ...
22- Selwood, Danger, Smith, CGuthrie, Duncan, before we get to Atkins .
Our MF this year is headed by Danger, Atkins and Holmes. The rest are very different

I forgot about Cam.
Danger finals in 22 was next level.

I really feel for Tuohy tonight, up until a couple of days ago he would have been expecting to play at least 1 more game, now all of a sudden his career is over without a whimper.
Sad reality. He said farewell v WCE. PITY others like Duncan did not join in. I think they looked more stuffed than Lions, so that’s saying something - we are actually old in the guts where it counts.

Went from massive high to massive low in the space of a few minutes. Get the goal to hit the lead, and then let two easy ones get through. A devastating rug pull.
It's a roller coaster isn't it!

If you ain't feeling you ain't living!!

Bruhn and bowes need a big 2025. Line in the sand year next year for mine. They don’t need to be superstars but either they step up as key cogs or it is proven they are just list cloggers based on potential. Harsh but indisputable to argue against this.
Bowes isn't going to get much better. He is what he is. He plays because we have poor depth in the area and he's the least bad of a bad bunch to round out the side. The ideal for the whole year would have seen him displaced, but we have no one to do it. Hopefully that happens in 2025. The point of getting Bowes was he was a mechanism to get a high draft pick coming off a flag year, and we pinned a lot of hope on Clark as a prospect.

Brisbane are a genuinely good outfit, they have been a top 4 team for 6 years, they were a kick away from a flag last year and are on a mission to make amends.

We absolutely bottled some chances and probably should've won it, but you can't win them all, it could've gone either way, Holmes injury really hurt us and the Lions stars stood up. It was a cracking final and unfortunately one team had to lose. No one would be more upset than the players but they showed a lot of fight and character.

I'm proud of the Geelong Football Club, they front up and contend every year and always try to get better. It makes me optimistic for the future, they won't rest on their haunches, this will spur the next generation and we've got some absolute stars, who all took a huge leap forward this year, coming through, Holmes arrived this finals series, Dempsey, Mullen, Ollie Henry, Humphries (what a player!), Mannagh all showed a bit, Neale didn't have his best game but he didn't drop his bundle, our key old guys aren't going to lose anything next year. We'll get smith in to add class in the midfield and hopefully Clark, O'Sullivan and Clohesy can become regulars.

Sucks to lose, 2022 eases the pain a bit. I felt all year that this was like 2017 or 2018, but our finals were much stronger than that and we'll be back next year and we'll keep being able to follow a great club!

I still see tremendous upside to him, and he was hobbling in the rooms at half time according to K Rock.

Lions are now on a 13-2 streak, which may add some perspective for those concerned that tonight was a case of hot favourite choking.

Have read since I posted that Bruhn was injured. Hopefully explains his game this evening.

Lions are a good team and have been for a number of years now. Their ball movement in the second half was impressive. They annihilated us overhead most of the night too.

Today reminded me of the 1995 GF v Carlton, losing our gun winger/mid Riccardi with a hammy early game- he was starring.
Holmes is a similar player.
Hope he has more luck than Riccardi wrt GF’s and flags.

I am a longtime lurker and first time poster - finally decided to make an account after tonights' game. Whilst gutted we should be damn proud of our boys.. our club is going through generational change with some big retirements - not many other teams can do a rebuild on the run like we have an still get to a prelim. We were clearly struggling but Brisbane didn't have an easy win..
This experience hurts but I bet it puts the fire in the belly of the younger blokes.
Love the club and the young talent coming through - Love the support in the thread
Welcome aboard!

He’s not doing the basics.

Every time he touches it he try’s to do something unbelievable.

That kick in was just an extraordinary luxury. Like hitting a WR on his back shoulder on a 55m go Route. Cost us a goal. The ball he should have punched over the line instead of Jono Browning it. The handball he turned over. He’s still pulling some of the moves off but he’s runjing at 50/50 good to bad at times this year

Interesting take considering they out marked us all night. having an extra tall and not needing Blitz to do it all would've been nice.

Total marks for the night was 64 - 111, the contested mark total was 8 - 11

That means uncontested marks were 56 - 100

An extra tall isn’t going to stop the uncontested marking game they played - they were happy to look for the short options if it meant an open player and force the overlap that way

Hindsight is better than foresight
There is no evidence just assumption
Perhaps SDK and was still injured.
Many players played below their best.
What cost the Cats was the bye
They lost their touch, fumbled, etc
Had the Cats kicked straight...
Had Max not done a hammy...
Scott would have been a genius.

One positive is Holmes won't have to miss a second GF tilt in succession
Gutted though to lose a genuine tilt

I agree with you. And as sad as this sounds, I think bowes will still have the better career then Clark. Hope I’m wrong

As if we have a choice. Bruhn and Bowes are better than any possible replacements. We have to make them work. I don't see any other players knocking them off their perch.
