Trade period is done and dusted for another year and we can look forward to the national draft with 6 solid picks the latest of which is an early 4th rounder. We must use all of these picks to strengthen our long term position and build upon an already young core of players. Hopefully they along with our new coach can all grow together as a group.

To make 6 selections in the draft we must first free up some room on our list. With Simmo and Watt retiring and Gibbo traded this leaves us needing to de-list at least 3 players (more if we wish to promote rookies). Three names have already been mentioned as players who wont be playing with North next season.

Harris
Power
Riggio

This leaves us needing to only make space for any rookie promotions that we plan to doing.

So which rookies deserve promotion? And who do you think needs to be delisted to make way for them?

Again, Simmo doesn't give us a list spot, he's an outside the list veteran and we don't have anyone to replace him with, we get an extra rookie.

So with Harris, Power, Riggio, Gibbo and Watt gone we have 5 spots. If we want to make 6 selections and promote Obst and Garlett we need to delist 3 extra players.

I actually think we will only make 5 picks. Wundke might be gone, not sure where the other spot will come from, Ed might be in trouble

Will Rawlings qualify for a veterans spot?

I see no reason to waste an early 4th round selection by not using it. If it was a late pick fair enough.

I think its likely Wundke could be in trouble if he couldnt force his way into the side last season with all our injuries.

What is the contract situation with Jones? Is he signed for another year?

Is there any chance of White being promoted?

I think Wundke should be definately gone.

I'm unsure on the promotions of Obst and Garlett ( i don't think either of them will be long term afl players.)

Next in line to go would be:
Josh Smith
Ed Lower
Aaron Edwards
Corey Jones

I think we will have 5-6 picks in the National Draft and one pick in the Pre Season Draft (depending on who's available.)

agree that JWS should be sorted first............

with the club being so clear on how it was approaching trade week you would think the list has already been decided.....

next step would be to get assistants on board......

I think you will find garlett will be given a real chance next year ,only has to work on his disposal ,and that will come with senior games as he gets used to the much higher tempo of senior afl football .PS hes only 20

Not sure when it, changed, but interested to notice that our website has Gibson as a 'past player'. No longer listed as a senior player.

Such changes have, in the past, taken ages to be updated on the website. Josh has become persona non grata pretty damn quickly!

If it was changed the ten seconds after the transfer papers were lodged, it was 10 seconds too late Kimbo.

Good to see they're on the ball down at the club nowadays. Brilliant work!

I wonder (cbf'd checking at 4.40am) what JWS is labelled as........."limbo", "purgatory", "dunce cap on in the naughty corner", "in front of the mirror having a good hard look at himself"?

Who knows?

Euge gets it done...........no doubt about him. Onya Euge :thumbsu:

I read somewhere else and in relation to another Club that the AFL will decide on 19 October about new rules re rookies. This has to do with the introduction of new teams and involves increased numbers of rookies and most importantly the expected introduction of an extra year for rookies into a third year. This may impact on Garlett and Obst and hence impact on need for promotion to senior list.

The players to delist/retire are simmo, watt, riggio, power, harris, wundke, gibbo.

Promote Garlett as he has shown plenty and knows how to get his own ball.Just has to work on his disposal.

With our draft picks we should get 3 mids with our picks, it would be nice to get cunnington at 5,that dandy plaer at 21 balstanic and at 25 melkshaw from calder he is classy.
Thats what we need class and real smart players.

Get a couple of KPP with our other 2 picks.

Garlett will get promoted and i dont think obst will get a spot on the senior list.
Wundke will definately get shown the door and if smith stays than id think that ed lower will be shown the door also.

OUT
Gibson
Simpson
Watt
Power
Harris
Riggio
Wundke?
Smith?
Lower?

IN
Garlett?

Where is Corey Jones in that list - agree with all of them bar Josh Smith

You only get a selection in the Pre-Season Draft if you pass on a selection in the NAB Draft. Personally I feel we should utilise this option by only using 5/6 picks in the NAB Draft. There seems to be a decent talent pool entering it this year and we are perfectly placed to take whoever we want with pick 4 and a plethora of salary cap space.

Yeh jones is contracted for another year and it was jesse smith not josh. Just depends if he stays or not and nominates for PSD.

I read on the main board that Pickers, his manager, has said that he will go into the draft in the hope Geelong will pick him up with a late pick. I didn't hear it so can't confirm it. I think it was mostly an issue of his sub-par medical treatment, but again, I didn't hear it.

I hope the club at least looks into if there is an agenda of Pickering to get Smith at his ex-club, could be a dangerous scenario.

Yeh jones is contracted for another year

How do people not know this? We have gone through trade week and all the speculation preceeding it. Corey Jones is contracted, David Hale is contracted. do people not read other threads?

So my understanding, you can have 38 players + veterans + 6 rookies (will probably change to 8 rookies).

In 2009 we had 38 players + 2 veterans + 6 rookies

We wll only have 1 veteran in Boomer (Rawlings not old enough eligible in 2011)

Primary list:

Promote Garlett

Power, Harris, Watt and Riggio gone already.

I would add Wundke to gone.

That would leave us with 4 picks. We need 5 minimum, so one more has to go.

Out of: Benjamin, Edwards or Lower I reckon. (This is assuming Jesse stays, if he walks then all three above may be able to stay or we still delist one and take 6 picks).

Rookie list - looks like AFL will increase the number you can have to 8.

Delist Obst and Meredith

Re-list Riggio as a rookie

Leaving Speight, White, Delany and Riggio as our rookies with four selections to come.

OR

Given draft is shallower than previous years, meaning rookie pickings are not going to be great, we could delist Benjamin and Lower and rookie them as well, leaving us with:

  • Power, Harris, Watt, Wundke, Obst, Meredith gone.
  • Garlett elevated
  • 6 selections in National Draft
  • Lower, Riggio, Benjamin added to rookie list
  • 2 new player selections in rookie draft

Maybe there are stuck on a 16hr night shift on the other side of the world and skimming over things or not taking it in properly.....in the modern day online society it seems most things are repeatedly asked once a question or topic falls off the front page.

I rarely look past the first page, so may miss stories or important points and sometimes it is easier to ask and see if you get a reply when your flicking to and fro on the sight during a shift.

You would think we would keep at least one selection for the pre-season draft?

Also, Meredith deserves another season as a rookie. Can't give up on him just after one season, he is an international rookie, still learning the game.

You would think we would keep at least one selection for the pre-season draft?

Why? The pre-season draft ain't what it used to be. All uncontracted players will likely go to ND unless they have an arrangement with Melbourne or Richmond.

The only value I can see in the PSD is it gives you a bit more time to reassess, but I reckon Lice Brewis will be switched on to what he wants and our 6th pick is a 4th rounder.

Also, Meredith deserves another season as a rookie. Can't give up on him just after one season, he is an international rookie, still learning the game.

Because he is Irish? We give up on first year rookies all the time. Every club does. I have only see him once, so can't be certain, but doesn't look to have that much IMO. And from what I read he didn't do much. White and Speight seem to have more upside. But this is really blind opinion, still, i would say it is a safe bet that at least 2 of our 2009 rookies will be gone from the club in 2010...probably more.
