I'd suspect a possible suspension, along with a fine, tbh. You can't go threatening journalists, anymore than you can go threatening umpires. If Toby Greene shoulder bumping an umpire is 'bringing the game into disrepute'...then that incident is basically 'turning the game into a dumpster fire.'

Theres no chance he will get suspended for that none.
He might get a fine but hes probably happy to pay that...if anything it gives more air to his point.

It’s hilarious the people calling for suspensions.

How soft have we become when a coach can’t call out some dweeb journo giving him the shits?

Moronic droolers like Tom Morris and Tom Browne are lucky they weren’t interviewing coaches 30 years ago.

This! Extremely odd behaviour from Beveridge but I see no reason to suspend him

Watching a replay of On the Couch right now.

Morris says exactly this:

“Big news Lachie Hunter has been dropped…I say dropped of course it’s round 1 he hasn’t played yet this year but he is available for selection, he is not injured, it is not disciplinary, they have simply left him out so HE WON”T PLAY IN ROUND 1.

He was literally shown to be wrong in his concluding claim. I was shocked as he was reporting it thinking how the fu** can you be in any position to say who will or won’t play with certainty, we are miles off the final teams being announced.

Medical substitute is an on field emergency, and means you are not playing Round 1 - you're dealing in semantics right now, and arguing over nothing...when Bevo himself said that he was right and that was what pissed him off.

It wouldn't be a leak if Morris had got it wrong...it would just be fabrication - and probably wouldn't have annoyed him so much, if so. You're locked into your position, when your very source - Bevo -, has confirmed the opposite.

Not surprised to see this website defending a journalist

A lot of undercover journo/hacks outing themselves in the early pages of this thread lol.

That, or a lot of murdoch/trash journo fans who are completely hooked on "gossip" or "breaking" news.

Media will feast on this now, backing their own in as they meaninglessly feast on the teat of AFL footy. And Bevo will go into Us against Them mode for the Doggiess '22 season now.

Full transcript:

Speaking in his scheduled press conference afterwards, Beveridge was asked by Morris about the circumstances leading to Hunter's place in the side. He replied with the following comments:

"You've got the nerve to ask me a question and even be here. You've been preying on us the last two times. You barrack for Melbourne, Tom Morris. You've been preying on us. You've been opening us up, causing turmoil within our football club by declaring our team well before it needs to be declared. Is that the way Fox want you to operate? Is that what you're doing? Is that the gutter journalist you want to be? Is that who you want to be?

"We went in with a plan. We had some late stuff go on, with JJ unfortunately coming out in the warm-up. Everything other than that was according to plan from the Sunday, which somehow you found out about again. We need to get to the bottom of this. Obviously, we need to put our hand up and say that there's some leakage going on. But you're preying on it and it's a team you barrack for. Your conflict of interest here is considerable. And yet, your gutter journalism at the moment is killing us behind the scenes.

"The health and wellbeing of people in the game is caught up in all of this stuff. We've got things to concentrate on performance-wise, we've got to look after our own, and then you cause all of this muck-raking trash that happens behind the scenes. Names get brought up into it. All we're doing it planning for a football game. Are you proud of yourself? You're proud of yourself? Wow. That's enough, that's enough. Next question please. You're not welcome. Well, have you got enough boys and girls? I think we're probably done, aren't we?

"This is what happens, because I know … if you found something out, you'd ring (head of communications) Adrian Ceddia and say, 'look I know this … just so you know that I know … something has happened and it's got out'. The courtesy and the integrity and the ethical way to go about it has happened in the past. Now this bloke here and what he's doing, it's giving everyone else a bad name. Right when we're trying to stabilise our competition and what we do, with everything that's gone on behind the scenes and us as coaches and a football program with the soft cap situation as it is, and this sort of stuff happens. You're an embarrassment to what you do, mate. You're an embarrassment. An absolute embarrassment."

Beveridge then left his press conference without any further questions.

Bevo was pretty over the line, but I think this is a key point skipped over because he went at Tom Morris so hard.

Reading between the lines, I am thinking Morris leaked the news before Hunter was made aware. It could explain the frequent references to mental health Bevo made, with Hunter previously having taken time off for personal issues.

I think Bevo is right for calling him out but yeah his attack on Morris was over the line and should be embrassed about it.

If anyone/coach is entitled to lash out/vent at the media it is Simon Goodwin.

His measured response to some pretty heavy accusations at The Dees shows the gulf in class between Goody and Bevo as people/human beings.

What event, Hunter not being in the starting 22? Until Johannason injured himself in the warm-up and he was brought in as a late change?

Or the event where Luke Beveridge said "we went in with a plan, we had some late stuff go on, with JJ unfortunately going out in the warm-up, everything other than that was according to plan from the Sunday, somehow you found out about it again..."

Which of those events was it?

He reported these exact words: “(Hunter) won’t play in round 1.”

Hunter played. Therefore what Morris pre-emptively reported was incorrect.

Pretty simple stuff.

Clearly Beveridge looks like a fool and seems unhinged but why do people want him suspended?

Journos don’t deserve any protection from the AFL. The coaches have no authority over them so there is no power imbalance. Why isn’t Bevo entitled to have a crack at Morris?
Yeah it’s amazing.

In the grand scheme of things Bevo has lost it.

But we are also talking about journalists who smash these coaches for years on end and ride then right until their sacking.

Not allowing them any sort of outlet to say stuff back to them is absurd.

And **** me we’ve even got people taking sides with Damian Barrett in this thread. Are we forgetting his disgraceful behaviour regarding the Dogs and Tom Boyd?

Bevo clearly cares about his players and is sick of journos trying to drum up controversy.
