News Maguire in mix to join Carlton's pre-season

Waite - He was originally a forward player. He was moved back because we were getting killed back there spread so thinly. We have lost Fevola. Waite is the x-factor to replace him up forward. Just before he injured himself he played on Riewoldt, kept him goalless I believe and had kicked 3 goals on him. He is an amazing player one-on-one. Return to forward line.
Really?

I have memories of him playing as a wing/HBF originally.

Moved forward to cover suspensions/injuries to Fev, Lance etc......IIRC.

Would prefer Maguire in the side than Fisher, to be brutally honest.

I would have to agree. I don't care how well Fisher went in the 2's this year because he has been at Carlton long enough (and been given a lot more chances than Hartlett was) to prove himself a worthy forward, yet has not performed.

Having said that, he is a good overhead mark, has a reasonable tank, and still faily agile. Maybe he is worth playing on the wing.

I would definately give Goose a go at CHB as we then have Waite free in the Forward line. I also think Waite will play full forward this year because the medical team will want him leading straight up the ground so he won't twist the knee too much.

Nothing to lose by getting Goose.

Maguire would be great for the blues KPP

B: Joseph - Maguire - Bower

H/B Walker - Jamison - Thornton

C: Simpson - McLean - Gibbs

H/F Yarran - Waite - Robinson

F: Betts - Kreuzer - Henderson

FOLL: Warnock - Judd - Murphy

SORRY TO SAY HADLEY IS SHIT AS AND PLUS WE GOT McLEAN

LOLZORDZ! :thumbsu:

mclean has done nothing for us yet and hadley came into great form towards the end of the season, gave 100% and broke his arm playing for our club, and he's shit. thats some good club spirit there shell....

and goose will be a GREAT pickup should he proove himself at training.
awesome stuff.

No Maguire

I would love it if we picked up Goose, when we play the saints he played on revolting and kicked his arse. That would be nice.
Maguire wouldn't be able to run with Richmond's Riewoldt, let alone the elite one who runs like the wind.

Pass.

We might have a look at Maguire because it doesn't cost us anything, but I expect us to pass after giving him a medical.

We better not pick him up.

Blues throw Maguire lifeline

"He's a tall who can play forward and back," he said.

Why is Maguire considered a forward and a backman?

Maguire hasn't even kicked more than ten goals in a season.

Playing forward in the VFL means jack if Saddington can do it.

Meanwhile, speculation the club had been looking at former Melbourne high flyer Russell Robertson has proved unfounded with Ratten revealing former Crows speedster Aaron Kite was the only other discard the Blues would consider ahead of December's pre-season draft.

"He's already here and started with the boys this week," he said of the former Calder Cannon who Adelaide picked 71st overall at the 2007 NAB AFL Draft.

"He's really quick, is 190cm and can play off half-back so we'll have a look at him too."

No Robertson. :thumbsu:

If we take a discarded player with pick 59 or later, it better be Kite and not Maguire who is a cripple.

Re: No Maguire

Didn't we take Dean Rice as a cripple? He went okay.

I'll be guided by our medical team on this one. He's not a cripple as he played out the VFL season, but we are looking for a long term prognosis on him getting a bit of pace back.

What makes you think you know more than the club?

Maguire will be examined thoroughly. If the club believes he is fit, and capable of withstanding the rigours of AFL football, then I trust their decision more than I trust you calling for Kite to be picked over him.

Here's to Matt Maguire, and if we do pick him up, here's to him regaining his fitness, regaining his form, and being a vital cog in premiership number 17.

Different era. Even Diesel would struggle in today's game.

Cant run-cant play.

"Has versatily" is code for "got nothing else to hype the guy up with"

Re: No Maguire

You may want to send Ratten a text, as they are seriously looking at The Goose.
I understand there may be issues, but he is not a cripple any more than Rice was when we picked him up in the 90s.
One good, tough and loyal servant was Mr. Rice

If Maguire passes the Med, he should be (will be) picked up.

Man thats just a little weird & creepy for me.

Looking at them doesn't mean we're going to draft them.

How does Rice's injury relate to Maguire's body in 2009?

Rice had a knee reconstruction, yet still managed to get on the park more than Maguire.

Rice didn't lose any of his pace..

Carlton ran out Whitehead in a game too after our doctors sent him out again.

Whitehead never played again.

Need I remind you of Allan's struggles with his broken foot.

KPP have to be quick and able to run.

Maguire is a down grade on Cloke as a forward, but just as slow and immobile as Cam.

Cloke has shown more as a forward than Maguire, yet we want a list clogger.

Hartlett and Saddington played out the season too.

Neither are AFL players.

If we draft Maguire in the national draft, I think we might have to give him two years.

A year deal using the PSD or nothing.
robbie warnock.

if we took him then matt is as good as a blue :thumbsu:
Che?

Warnock was 21 when he joined Carlton.

Even Knockers has better agility and legspeed than Maguire.

RW didn't come to Carlton with a busted foot and zero games in 2008.

The logic on this board is overwhelming. Big :footy:

The club also took Chris Johnson and Darren Pfeiffer.

You're a shape shifting troll who always knifes Hughes and snipes me, but then defends the club if I think we should look elsewhere.

Kite and Maguire played the identical number of games this year.

Adelaide delisted Porplyzia at 19 too.

I'd rather pick up a young player with promise and pace than a broken down one who is injury prone.

I'll support Maguire if we pick him up, but I'd rather we not take the risk.

You'd be the first of many to bag the player, Ratten, Sticks and Hughes if it goes pear shaped.
