Why would the AFL have scheduled us a Sunday game before the ANZAC Thursday game...? Surely a Friday or Saturday would be better. That makes no sense.

No way. Cowboys did the Wests Tigers in 72-0 in their trial.A community service announcement …
Please don’t meltdown and demand that everyone from Fly to Neil-the-bootstudder be summarily terminated if we lose to North / fail to defeat North by a kazillion goals / fail to meet whatever your expectations may be.
Nor will we have every Premiership in the bag between now and 2028 if we do whallop North by a kazillion goals.
It’s a pre-season game where coaches trial a bunch of different players and tactics. Nobody gives a rats clacker about the result.
For context, we got thumped by the Hawks down at Morwell in the 2022 practice game, and look at what’s happened since then.
This all might seem obvious, but it never fails to catch out some every season.
Think we have a Saturday don’t we? V Port? Why would the AFL have scheduled us a Sunday game before the ANZAC Thursday game...? Surely a Friday or Saturday would be better. That makes no sense.

Sharpen it anyway, a stray Carlton supporter may just happen by.No way. Cowboys did the Wests Tigers in 72-0 in their trial.
If we don’t beat North by 400 I’m sharpening my pitchfork
What part don't you understand?
If you don’t know the answer to that you don’t really understand the relationship we have with the AFL.Why would the AFL have scheduled us a Sunday game before the ANZAC Thursday game...? Surely a Friday or Saturday would be better. That makes no sense.
Except we aren't playing the Sunday prior to Anzac Day. We are playing on the Saturday coming off a bye.If you don’t know the answer to that you don’t really understand the relationship we have with the AFL.

Who would you prefer? And does it really matter? It's just a practice match.Wouldn't we be better of playing another intraclub than playing Norf?
I’d like to see Mcreery trialled on ball, Schultz can have his spot in the forward line.NORTH MELBOURNE V COLLINGWOOD

Magpies’ burning question:Are the youngsters ready for more responsibility?
A few Collingwood younger players have put their hands up for more senior opportunities in 2024 as the reigning premiers consider turning to their next crop. So who’s ready for more responsibility? Finlay Macrae shined in the club’s intra-club match and would a veteran midfield with an injection of youth it may need from a long-term perspective. Meanwhile Dan McStay’s ACL injury has opened up a key-position spot, with Reef McInnes, who’s also impressed over the pre-season, and Ash Johnson considered to be in the mix. Such names will get their first real chance against proper competition to boost their prospects of a Round 1 berth.

Fin Macrae dominated in the clinches during the club’s intra-club last week, so it will be a watch to see if he can do it again. If the third-year midfielder has another good outing for the Magpies, he should be in pole position to take over Taylor Adams’ midfield role. Ed Allan was another young gun that is fighting for a midfield role and he was impressive as well, but will need a good performance against the Kangaroos and then Richmond to break in and earn a debut. Plus, there are still question marks over who will fill Dan McStay’s spot in the forward line, with Reef McInnes and Ash Johnson both vying for the role.
I’d like to see Allan in his preferred position, not sure what that is
I think more along the lines that if he is the talent the club seems to think he is he will find a role. Off the top of my head he can step in as the 3rd winger. Last season Josh did 86% game time, may do less this year with a restriced pre season, and Sidey 80% so just there there is 34% time needed which would be roughly half the time a new mid like Allen would play. Rest might be a mix of HF, the odd bit of centre square work and even a bit of HB. New mids tend to mix their position around a bit tile they establish. That's my question about Allan in 2024. I don't think this will be his year as if he is to get a fair few games, what role is he ready to slot in to.

More the point is good young mids make a case to say you need to create a space for me and push out one of the lower ranked players. I would see injury or Lippa, WHE as the type og players he may replace in the 23 initially if he is that really good young player. I am hoping he is and did like the look of him after seeing the full intraclub on replay. I liked he seemed to stay involved over all 3 sessions. He is our mid/medium most likely from those outside the 22 for mine.
