Remember guys it’s preseason so I wanna see heaps of people roasting players and writing our year off if we make any mistakes. Hell, we’ll be bottom 4 if we lose to Norf come to think about it.
Anything that can go straight to the whipping boy thread would help get the ball rolling

I agree that he looks very promising, but I think we've seen an upgrading in valuation of outside roles with real specialists playing in them. I think you've got to be able to nail a role to break into the team in a way that you didn't used to have to when being the next in line mid got you a game on a flank. He'll do well to break into and hold a place in this team - as he doesn't look ready for the centre square and we've got an outstanding group of flankers - most who appear more specialised for roles than he does yet.
Yeah its a balance I guess. If you are really good, ND as the way out there example, you will get a role no matter what even if it isnt the role you are ultimately destined for. A Finn Callaghan will have to wait a little but ultimately is pretty quickly too good to leave out. A Harvey Harrison gets a sniff but not yet ready so is maybe good enough but we have to wait and see.

I am hoping Ed is trending towards that Callaghan trajectory.

All good points. Also look forward to hearing people talk of a premiership hangover if we lose to North in this practice match. You just know it’s goijng to happen.🥹

Love the optimism, but that’s a high bar based on current evidence. Daicos and Ashcroft aside Callaghan looks the best mid U22 in the game, IMO. I’d be looking for more of a Soligo/ Durham/ Cottrell/ Nash slow burn (unless we cop injuries) because I agree with the context provided by Sr. It’d be nice to see him step it up on Wednesday from the match simulation last week.

It's hope and optimism regarding a best case senario. I am not suggesting I expect that. But we are always looking at where our next A grader may be coming from and he is the one I am hoping for.

A community service announcement …

Please don’t meltdown and demand that everyone from Fly to Neil-the-bootstudder be summarily terminated if we lose to North / fail to defeat North by a kazillion goals / fail to meet whatever your expectations may be.

Nor will we have every Premiership in the bag between now and 2028 if we do whallop North by a kazillion goals.

It’s a pre-season game where coaches trial a bunch of different players and tactics. Nobody gives a rats clacker about the result.

For context, we got thumped by the Hawks down at Morwell in the 2022 practice game, and look at what’s happened since then.

This all might seem obvious, but it never fails to catch out some every season.

You've got to be kidding me!!!! Fly's job is right on the line here, make or break for the rookie coach this week. ;)

Totally agree on the eye to the future. I shared your hope up to the back end of 23, but I’m not as strong right now and actually feel it more with TJ and Demattia. It’s probably a mix of new shiny objects and progress not being linear rather than anything I’ve seen or heard re Allan.

Yeah I have been impressed by the little bits I have seen of those 2 1st years. Even just the spoil Tew put on Pendles in the intraclub was showed athleticism and feel for the game. They are all players easy to like the look of. Hope it translates

Hill and McCreery are the one's I'm hoping for.
I am with you there. Was rapt when we got Bobby and thought he could turn into the most exciting of the players we traded in. He follows that games played senario I love and add in he was doing some out of the ordinary stuff also in the first 4 seasons meant he was a potential steal. I took longer to pick Beau than most but he is a beauty and trending like a really good player. Fantastic pick 44. If we had hung onto Henry and Ginny I reckon the 2020 draft crop would have been a great return for the picks we had. Its not bad anyway.

Ok I’ll be there Wednesday now, so locked in. Want to see a few things from the match.

Kick out from points - let’s hope we can improve on last year

Less over the top goals from opposition teams

Centre clearance for the love of God let’s get our fair share to blow these games open

Fin Mac, never been a fan and far from convinced unlike some here but happy to be proven wrong !

Kruger to be hyped up by the media after a big game

Dean to be a regular defender

Noble on the wing

Checkers to hold his feet and not fumble

JDG & Naicos to send the media into a frenzy

Embarrassing after goal celebrations!!

Ok, just a few to mention
HH and Allan feedback too if possible?

We play the Saturday not Sunday

Okay, the link on page 1 in this thread has it on Sunday - must be a typo (thankfully)

If you don’t know the answer to that you don’t really understand the relationship we have with the AFL.
I don't buy into the narrative that some supporters love to pedal, which is that the AFL dislikes us wants us to fail (which makes no sense at all - if anything it is the opposite).

I think the representation of the Port game being Sunday is a typo.

In the link earlier in this thread it shows as Sunday... must be a typo hopefully...
All good, I was only across the detail because I have a Sunday commitment that week which would have meant a clash would have been a rather large disappointment

I think more along the lines that if he is the talent the club seems to think he is he will find a role. Off the top of my head he can step in as the 3rd winger. Last season Josh did 86% game time, may do less this year with a restriced pre season, and Sidey 80% so just there there is 34% time needed which would be roughly half the time a new mid like Allen would play. Rest might be a mix of HF, the odd bit of centre square work and even a bit of HB. New mids tend to mix their position around a bit tile they establish.

More the point is good young mids make a case to say you need to create a space for me and push out one of the lower ranked players. I would see injury or Lippa, WHE as the type og players he may replace in the 23 initially if he is that really good young player. I am hoping he is and did like the look of him after seeing the full intraclub on replay. I liked he seemed to stay involved over all 3 sessions. He is our mid/medium most likely from those outside the 22 for mine.
What concerns with this post is that people continue to undermine WHE role in the team, after contributing in two grand finals and winning one.

He is durable and going nowhere, his role is defined and sacrifices for the team, he’s versatile…not many players can slot into that selflessly.

Sorry if I missed it ... but who is coaching tomorrow? I can't see it listed but usually it's an assistant coach in the Community Cup. Wondering if Roughy gets a nod seeing his Ballarat team won.

Anyone have any news?

A real supporter just knows that the AFL wants to see us stumble then fall. He, she or even they know that all scumps hate us and that every decision they make against us is wrong. The whole non Collingwood world hate us. We wear all this hatred proudly as a badge of honour.

Wouldn’t surprise if we lose this one.
Reckon it will mean a bit more to North and we looked a little rusty in intra club
Yep, on your say so, your hunch, feeling in the bones or whatever, let's call this a loss now and move on to the next game. You can't win them all and in particular this one, it seems.

Roughy is coaching. Skipsorth is coaching the Richmond game

He's a solid player and ridiculously versatile. However, we are getting old and do need to start pushing through a youngster or two. Unless we get injuries - we will have to push out a player or two - unless our young guys on the fringe are no good.

As an aside, I’m actually looking forward to watching North. They’ve drafted some highly credentialed kids over the last few years and some of them should be ready to deliver.
I'm a lover of natural talent regardless of where they play. It's the only part of me that isn't one eyed
