Couldn’t agree more. It was so
Obvious our kids were just focused on winning the ball and not defending.
Yes. Mind you, im not entirely sure why there wasn't as much emphasis on pressure as there was at it was somewhat low. My best guess is that we ARE being concscious of potential injury, particually due to workloads obviously pushing the envelope at the moment so being convervative in a match that is literally just simulation might be warranted.

Melbourne did come out firing with their best 22 going full hog afterall which may or may not be a good mindset to start things off with but I reckon they feel that have something to prove after falling over last year.

On the subject of out on the full - has anyone else noticed a big increase in this over the past 3 years - including skilful players as culprits
when not even under big pressure. Got me wondering if it's not a "professional" free kick.
Maybe lots of sh!t kicks are. We might be one of the more professional teams in the comp.

When you've got depth it's not a bad idea to go hard and maybe pick up some niggles early in the season so you can exercise your depth, keep the load down on some of your important players.

Agree there should be pressure in practice games but there shouldn’t be defensive things like tagging or maybe even running with a player. Practice games are playing offensive more than defensive.

Looked more like wind assisted shitness in that one to me and I doubt it would be a ploy in most games either.

Seems some can say what they want. Look forward to your reply.

I was impressed with all our talls in the second game. Heath won the ruck contest. Adam played really well and used the ball well. Sharman and the hammer both very good up forward.
That Bain? VFL kid looked all right as well.

This gives a fair insight into Melbourne’s midfield dominance, and just how high their kick counts were.
Indicates how much we allowed them to chip the ball around.

its also the exactly the type of disposal you should be using against a primarly defencive pressure/running game plan.

He is ten times the coach Ratts was, its only February let’s get to round 8 before we give up on the year. We won 11 games last year think we can win 2 more this year
People writing off the year after a trail is a joke - Lyon is trying plays in different roles to see what they have and I fully expect by round one he will have a line up that will be more than competitive.
As long as we don't get smacked with injuries we should have a better year than last and how far we go will all depend on improve in consistency.
Atm we are only missing King from our best 22 - Billings , Jones and Hayes hardly played last year so until they get back on the park they will have to prove they are best 22.

Marshall to me is the guy I want dominating and if he does everything should come together - the last couple years he has had lingering injury issues , so let's hope he has a standout season.
That extra big guy taking marks around the ground is a bonus.
I also want Sharman to have a good go this year because he has the ability to be a standout for us.

It's called getting your second breathe - do it once or twice, you learn to keep going and it's something you
break on through and it's not a problem anymore. Means you are making some progress.

EDIT: I got blind on Southern Comfort once and was sick. Never went near it again.
I did the same...the smell of Southern Comfort for years after always sent a shiver down my spine,

My rite of passage occurred in 89 to be exact...
My 90's was was more of a joyous intoxication experience. Coopers beers, premium Herb, Flinders Uni, and is Uni Bar, LSD, 90's alternative aussie rock. and Saints making the granny in 97...

Sorry mate, but whenever I see your username…

I know it was only a preseason game but I was surprised at how bad we were defensively, especially with the amount of Melbourne players standing by themselves in the forward 50. No surprise Ross said on radio that he went through that with Enright. Another defensive performance like that and I think we’ll quickly see the end of the new cuddly, delegating Ross before we even get to round 1.

Haven't seen much in here on Hunter Clark. Anyone able to help me out on how he was?

I only saw around half of the periods but he was pretty much unsighted.

I never watched or listened to the game , but I wouldnt look to much into the defense knowing heard he had Howard , Cordy playing forward at time and Paton on a wing.

Lyon would be checking what players can do in other positions, but Knowing the defense side of Lyons game I expect it to be the least of our problems.

I feel Josh Battle could be a standout for us this year , he has the ability to be a star down back since he has been settled in one postion and at 24yrs of age could really have a outstanding year.

Having Sinclair who has turned into a All Australian star across have back and the consistent Wilkie having Battle step up will really take us forward.
I also think Howard will hold his own against the big forwards so we are in good shape.

Midfield is the area we have to improve to get us up to the top end of the ladder.
