WARNING This thread is in no way a troll, or an attempt at starting another simple minded argument. It is intended as a discussion about the changes in Matthew LLoyd as a player.

Ok, now..

Ive always thought Lloyd is a great player, he has often been maligned as soft.. up until recently i did not share this opinion.

That is quickly changing! Very Quickly.

Ive heard comments about him diving etc, but hadnt seen anything to out of the norm like many players do.

Cant remember the exact incident last week, but he took a dive or whatever, and was so obvious it must've made intelligent bomber supporters cringe.

But TONIGHT i dont think ive ever seen a more pathetic and weak ass attempt at milking a free kick.. im sure those who saw it know what im talking about. A saint player made contact with him, almost high but it wasnt and the contact wasnt that hard.. but then LLoyd stuttered and stammered 3 or 4 steps like he'd been biffed by Aussie Joe Bugner.. and starts holding his cheek like it was smashed into a thousand peices.. the other player didnt even make contact, and in my opinion LLoyd looked like an absolute girl.

for those who neglected to read the very first line (and yes i know they exist)THIS IS NOT A TROLL

It was weak and doesn't help LLoyds comments just before the Pre season started that he'd beefed up and wanted to become a tougher and more dominant force (dont have the article here and cant be bothered lookin for it.. thats what he meant though).

If grabbing ur face like uve got a broken cheekbone is his way.. it may just work as players will run away from him, fearful of the "Lloydy Roll".

Ive long had respect for Lloyd and thought he may even do better than Lockett did in the FF posie.

He may still do that, but if he wants to be a tough and honest player he needs to stop doing this, as it's getting worse.

I tell ya, it's just not cricket!

Smarten up Lloyd, you are better than that, and don't need to do it.

Too many constantly negative minded people post here who are more interested in trying to post a witty or condescending insult.

And these people are some of the biggest posters.

Joffa, you attempt it too often to be anywhere near origional , and you have one serious chip on your shoulder that you really should do something about, even if its as simple as taking deeper breaths, or at the other end of the scale putting a gun to your head and pulling the trigger. Personally i can't imagine any loss.

Now THIS post is a troll, actually more just me venting my frustrations. When i 1st started posting here i was suckered down to the level of Joffa and similar posters and ended up being just as bad.

I believe the point I raised was valid, and also thought there may be some people who may have had similar thoughts when watching that part of the game.

But like most threads.. ahh i cannot be bothered anymore.

To those people here who dont fall for Joffa and his types crap, good luck..

I saw what SaveFeriss is referring to and it did get a giggle round here, however, I'm a BIG Lloyd fan and always will be - he's a deadset champ. I wouldn't think that incident would require it's own thread here, or SaveFeriss's drawn out post.

If he'd tried to snipe someone on the sly, then I'd be concerned, but as far as I know, he's never been involved with any ugly behind the play incidents.

Did I mention the guy is a champ?

When Lloyd was playing in that almost unbeatable essendon team of 1999 to 2001, he had excellent delivery and plenty of it, no need to try and find other ways of getting the pill.

Unfortunately he now finds himself with a lesser midfield, delivery is not as good or as frequent. i think he also finds himslef against physically stronger backmen who will block his run and harass him, causing the ineveitable wrestle, which Lloyd takes as an opportunity to take that dive as he is more prone to do.

Lloyd wasn't himself tonight. Maybe too much testosterone after bulking up, but he was acting like a **** tonight. He is a champ, but what he was doing looked like something out of an u/16's match. He laid a beautiful tackle on Riewoldt until he wrapped his arm around his head (maybe accidental), then going with two fists to a saints player, just stupidity and uncalled for. And holding his cheek....like I said, very u/16's. He's such a great player without that stupidity.

have to agree with Save here, he clearly was acting a bit sooky at one stage. But what was worse was he "dumb" tackle on Reiwolt.

Lloyd probably played his worst game for the Essendon Football Club last night (if anybody can think of a worse game, please tell me ... thank god it's only Wizard Cup). His shot at goal from 30m out dead in front in the 3rd quarter summed up his own personal night, and the way the Bombers were playing.

His bump on Riewoldt was fair, but his little performance afterwards when he raised his hand to his cheek to signal he had been hit was bordering on pathetic.

That "dumb" tackle wasn't that bad.
Hamill charging into Murphy's back was the dumber act IMO and he was just lucky the umpire only caught the retaliation and handed him a shot at goal he didn't deserve.

If I had just been rushed by three or four Sainters with my team (and myself in particular) playing so poorly, I think I probably would have tried to milk a free too tbh

the hit itself was borderline okay (could have been a free to Reiwoldt) but his arms went straight at R's head. It was a coward's hit, and his performance after it (when he actually had to stand up to some saints with their faces to him) underlines again why opposition supporters love to hate the slack-jawed, grass tossing tosser.

he tries to be hard but doesn't know how, so ends up being soft. Someone like Johnson I respect as a hard at the ball player (like Hamill, who actually got away with a sneaky hit of his own, though much milder).

Lloyd is, and always has been, as hard as a handbag.

Lloyd came out of tonight's game looking like a pathetic sook and a coward. He is a real girlie.

And , guess what, I don't give a rats toss bag if anyone thinks that this is a troll post. The tackle was originally OK, but then the mongrel's true intentions became apparent as he went high with his arms around Roo's head and neck in an attempt to injure him.

The other Saints reactions were understandably hostile, which was enough to send the boy back off to the goal square where he remained most of the night , to scared to say boo.

I 'd like to know the percentage of goals he scores from soccering it off the ground. A goal is a goal, but I will bet lazy grand he will soccer one goal off the hands of the pack (he doesn't contest) every round of the home and away. The hotstepper Stephen Milne picks it up off the deck to make sure of it.

Oh yeah after he kicks it off the ground too I also bet he falls over too, with or without contact. he seems to love to pretend he almost snapped in half getting boot on ball.

He followed that up with a double forearm rabbit punch bitch slap (to protect himself more than anything).

He then finished it off with his academy award wining performance after feeling slight contact to his jaw.

Stick to tossing grass and kicking goals velvet boy, and leave the physical stuff to the men.

its not that hard to figure out that lloyd is 6'3" and 94 kilos and is probably not as agile as a milne so this is why he opts to kick it off the ground instead of picking it up. He has kicked a heap of goals that way so why change. He may play for free kicks but I think it comes from the fact that he cant seem to get a fair go from the umps with the treatment he gets from the fullbacks. Lloydy got a bit frustrated last night but calling him girly? now thats a LOL. Jealousy is a bitch

If the ball is delivered to him correctly he will do ok. As soon as the ball hits the ground or gose over hes head he is hopeless.

All he can do is lead well
take a chest mark
and kick straight

He is the most boring player in the modern game.

But i have to say he is a great kick and he will go down in history for that.

Wasn't the best night from Matty. I think it's the worst I've seen him play in two years (incl pre season games). The tackle was messy.

But beh, pre season. Who cares.
