Hard to think this is anything but a stay of execution.

**Touch wood** but if McKernan is to make anything of himself he needs Jacobs to get injured this year and carry our rucks solo for a prolonged period.

He's always had the safety net of better players around him - Jacobs, Tippett, Maric to take up the bulk of the work. He has operated on the periphery which is where he's comfortable. When it gets a bit tough he can always get out of the kitchen and go back to the safety of the SANFL. He secretly likes playing badly so that he can get out of the spotlight.

He needs the club to find itself in a position where the cupboard is absolutely bare and by default he's Number Uno ruckman for a long period. He'll have two options - retire instantly citing "personal issues" or actually become a footballer.

PS I think we'd take Otten as first ruck before Graham.

I think take Otten or Graham before McKernan.

Don't we have just about the worst ruck depth?
No not really ........4 ruckman on a list is normal:
Jacobs, Graham, Osbourne, McKernan & Jenkins

Now talk about our KP depth and we should have a backup for each position ....but also developing KPP 3 years in advance .......outside our best 22 who are our developing KPP?:
Siggins
L.Thompson :p .....sorry he doesn't count
B.Hartigan
S.McKernan

As you can see 3 of above have huge ????
We're two KPP short on our list ......assuming this maybe Ruttens last season

Top post. I said elsewhere (or maybe in this thread) that a 6-week injury to Jacobs is what McKernan needs most of all.

Would be fascinating.

What McKernan needs most of all is a letter of reference to a TAFE in Melbourne.

He needs a trade, because football sure as hell isn't for him.

"I hope our best ruckman gets a 6 week injury so that our 6th year on the list, never shown much of anything, not up to AFL standard, never starved of opporunity Forward-ruck finally gets a chance to shine" is just shit.

No not really ........4 ruckman on a list is normal:

It's not about how many ruckmen we have, it's about how many are ahead of McKernan.

McKernan is clear second on that list in terms of rucking. If we decide to go with two ruckmen, he could very easily find himself playing despite his flaws. If Jenkins struggles to return from injury he'll almost certainly get a game.

I don't think that would be the case at any other club in the AFL. I agree, McKernan's slight chance of AFL success exists solely at the Crows, and nowhere else. Considering he's already set up here and has supportive teammates, he'd be an absolute fool to leave.

If Jacobs is injured, McKernan is probably next in line - that was my point.

We can cover a KPP defender (Rutten/Talia) going down easier like in last year's finals, as we have Hartigan (L Thompson is serviceable), Otten, Lynch & Johnston who could all step into that role.

We are definitely more susceptible in the rucking department.

Really think everyone is over reacting on the ruckman issue .......if people are fine with Otten rucking, i see no problem with McKernan ........around the ground he's "currently" on a par with Jacobs, so nothing lost

Once again BF posters generally take a comment & run with it, till kit becomes fact

The majority here do not watch enough SANFL games to reach an opinion ........but of course we do
Osbourne .....for a first year he did well considering he had a long layoff with injury .......no-one here knows how he will progress this PS or how his rucking skills are.

Yet because he's not talked about or top of mind we discount him completely?

Graham .....of course he has a lot of baggage from his Richmond days. And he has admitted he was no-where near fit enough for AFL . The hard word has been issued "get fit or else" .....lets see what a fit Graham can do shall we

McKernan .......according to this board McKernan has got worse in the off season ....how that's possible is beyond me?

He IMO is also not fit enough !!!

But the lad has been improving .....albeit baby steps. Lets wait till we see what this PS does for Shaun & with a bit more maturity we know he's capable of being a good footballer.

Kane, we'll agree to disagree on who is more critical .....I'll stick with the fact our KP stocks are dangerously low. Hartigan really hasn't proven anything yet .......other than he's a chance.

Thank god youre not a selector
Correct ......Otten a better ruckman than McKernan

Amazing how when one poster posts a derogatory remark about a player it snowballs

McKernan is still on the upward curve ......he had "patches" of very good football .......just no-where near enough

I am still a keen supporter of his potential

Nah .....he had Walker out last year, so he was presented with the same opportunity & failed to grasp it.

McKernan has to "want" it more than he has ......"work" harder than he has .......and get a hell of a lot "fitter" than he has .....the talent is there

Yes I have but not as often as McKernan and never want to see him in Crows AFL uniform again.
Tongue in cheek but really can't do much worse than dopey.
Are you a Crow supporter ????? ......because no-one on our list who plays for the AFC deserves to be called that.

BTW ....how many games of AFL did you play ......because until then you do not have the right to call someone who has a derogatory name

Criticize the way they play of course ....or where they play ....thats what the forum is about , to discuss
