"we saw Fremantle miss out on (St Kilda forward) Lance Collard last year. I think West Coast missed out on (Geelong tall) Mitch Edwards".

Gee.

There is NO RISK in AFL reporting these days. It is an industry of all REWARD.

By NO RISK I mean you can make the most absurd claim (referencing sources), or make the most insane predictions and if it is eventually proven wrong there is NO RISK to you that your position will be questioned.

So much of what we are fed these days does not hold up from a common sense perspective yet nobody calls it out.

There is an acceptance now that every AFL show needs one of these NO RISK absurd commentators to attract an audience.

What it's done is turned me off watching or listening to these programs as I can't stomach the diet of utter garbage these commentators feed us.

I used to lap up any coverage I could get of AFL.

I would love one decent show that truly dissected games, truly broke down coaching moves, truly told us about who is coming through the ranks at our clubs (2nd's analysis).

Only one club wins the flag each year, it seems if you don't the answer is to either sack your coach or engage in absurd trade strategies. Such one dimensional analysis.

Not one commentator has articulated how the storyline has moved from "West Coast need Priority Picks" after a 76 point loss in Round 3 to now holding 3 wins and mowing down the Dees by 35 points last weekend.

It's a multi dimensional storyline of veterans improving, under 50 game players developing, a significant reduction in injuries week to week, belief building in a group that was bashed in every direction last year, a surprise packet red hot KF emerging from the shadows and a smoking hot kid as the cherry on top.

This side could well be 5 wins after 12 rounds and sitting 14th.

But let's go with the NO RISK storylines of homesickness, missed trade opportunities, assessing the list as horrid, giving the coach no dues, simply saying everyone is "fit" again.

NO RISK = PATHETIC.
100% here as well. Before the pyramids were built, I'd read the west every day, for sports only. Hang out at the Sunday times depot at 9pm for the release of the paper on sat night.

Moved onto as many tv shows as I could.

These days the only show I can stomach is on the couch. Everything else is just a $hitshow of amateur garbage, including the calls of most AFL games (on TV).

I used to watch as many games as I could along time ago. Outside of my team now, I struggle hard to watch any other game.

OTC was a reasonably watchable program that has deteriorated. And if it is 'national' why do they only feature Vic players? (Same old same old.)

I watch First Crack more than OTC now - and given it comes after the conclusion of the round (and we have many late Sun games) it means the analysis is fresher.

I hadn't of thought of it this way, but what's really filled that void for me, for a long time is our forum right here.

Better analysis and disection right here, from the vast majority of posters.

Take a bow everyone.

"Mid week tackle" is ok

You're right but it's not a new phenomena. It may be a relatively new thing with the AFL (no risk, no accountability commentators), and it has certainly become more prolific everywhere thanks to the all-pervasiveness of the internet, but the time of strong, extreme opinions has been growing in the media for decades.
Grey doesn't sell newspapers, grey doesn't get clicks, grey doesn't get talked about in forums such as this one. We are therefore part of the problem.
No-one reads the Amazon 2, 3 or 4 star revues. Only the 1 and 5 star reviews get read.

Everything has to be black or white.
This has ben a phenomena for decades in UK red top newspapers. The English cricket team wins a test and they are unbeatable, they lose one and they're the worst team in history. There is no in between, no grey.

The no risk, no accountability commentator is just the modern version of this. If Kane C was actually insightful, did some analysis, did a bit of research, wrote and spoke in whole sentences, he'd be out of a job because no-one would read his stuff.

Unfortunately I fear that we are stuck with this. The hell's bell of doom was sounded when Zuckerberg introduced the like button and turned facebook from a social platform to a popularity contest for likes.

There is room for a proper football podcast or show but it's a niche market and anything of quality runs the risk of being buried under the avalanche of poo that is the no risk headline seeking world.

2:15 "He is Neo from The Matrix"

The still Preview of this video, looks bizarre. kid is like the leaning tower of pizza, must have had some serious momentum, and how good is the gurnsey his goal of the year gets played in!

The Jumper is fantastic. I love the bit of blue at the base that just blends in to the shorts.
I hope we keep this one for a good while. Maybe even use it as a staple away jumper every now and then it's that good.

Yeah, I love the look of the blue bleeding into the shorts, looks fantastic. I love how three of Harley's highlights, his first goal, his Derby destruction and the goal of the year...which it WILL be goal of the year, were done in three different jumpers. The navy against the Swans, the regular against the Dockers and the Indigenous jumper against the Dees...the navy jumper looks great on him, not gonna lie.

Loved hearing Schofield saying his thoughts on the DH from the west that's putting all the Reid stuff on the back page,
I think I just enjoy hearing people bag the FW, regardless of who they are 😂.
He's leading the Most punchable head award at the mo!
