Posters that call other posters ******ed don't intend it literally, yet BigFooty on a sitewide basis, remove the word. Why do you think that is?

There is a difference between homo and ******ed. The latter is unacceptable, while homo offends very little compared to "******ed". This doesn't exactly make either of the terms rightful to use, but this is our society.

The intent is to emasculate them in the case of homosexuality. not make a statement about homosexuality.

Imagine if you are a 14 year old gay boy playing footy and this kind of thing is tolerated; gay teen suicide rates are high for a reason.

Completely disagree. I would say the vast majority of gay people would be offended by someone using the word homo. A small number probably don't care but most would. It is still diminishing a minority group as an insult.

Yes it is, why doesn't he call him a prick or a silly? Why does he call him a homo? Why should it be insulting to call someone a homo? There's nothing wrong with homosexuality, why should it be considered derogatory?
You see it with people all the time, if they don't like something it's "gay". Why should bad equal gay.

If people weren't offended, the insult would lose its effect and fall into disuse. Perhaps Harry's the one who needs to be educated?

I think the major difference here is words between two players in the heat of the moment, versus two coaches at a quarter time break having a go at a player. Coaches should have no interaction with players from another team while the game is on. Player on player, go your hardest. Coach on player (or indeed the reverse) should not be tolerated.

That is hilarious! Who do you follow again? Have you sat in the outer at a Collingwood game any time in the last 100 years, especially anywhere near the cheersquad, for instance? "Homo" would be one of the the nicest and tamest things you'd hear all day!

I have lived in Fitzroy my whole life. Straight as they come but know dozens of gay people. The vast majority of gay people i know call each other "***", "******", "girl", "****", "queen" etc etc. They don't take offence to it.

I know I am arguing the PC side of the case in this thread, not to have a shot at Milne as such though. However, I really hope the media go after the AFL over this. They are deliberately bringing heat on to an issue needlessly, probably to show how progressive they are. Milne was always going to be fined after the AFL released the information. They had already decided they were going to manipulate the situation to their advantage. They sold Milne down the river instead of having a quiet word about appropriateness.

The AFL no longer represent the clubs or the game IMO, they have placed themselves above both, like a corporate entity eager to show off to the world.

Actually, a phobia is a fear. Literally, a homophobe is someone who feels "fear, horror, or aversion, especially of a morbid character" towards those of the same sex.

unfortunately for milne this isnt the first time he has done it.

having said that. milne has shown more class than malthouse did when he was sactioned. atleast milne has apologised, where as malthouse refused and the club was forced to do so on behalf of malthouse.

also is anyone else starting to think harry o is a pretentious **** wit. preaches fairness and honesty. 15 minutes after the game, he's claiming the free was for a mark, i mean come on. then he leaks this crap to the media.

if the harry said the same thing to milne, my best is milne would be happy to leave it on the field or settle it behind closed doors without the medias involvement.
