Traded Mitch McGovern [traded to Carlton in a three-way trade involving Sydney and McAdam]

Do you also know that Carlton needs to facilitate several other deals before they get the currency to trade for M McGovern? due to Ried demand.
Do you understand that certain important people at the Crows would be happy if he stays at the club for 2019.

End of the day he is either traded for a deal that benefits the Crows or playing for the Crows next year.
Win /Win for me and a lot of other people. so I will not be disappointed.
Dont bother responding to that rubbish av... hes talking shit and just looking for bites..

Haven't scoped this thread in a while but isn't this just a formality? Carlton probably will now have to reshuffle some picks as 24 and 25 need to turn into a late first. Few Crows posters on here suggesting they'd rather keep him but that'd be a serious turnaround. Seems like McGovern has burnt his relationship with Adelaide.

He has not burnt his relationship at the Crows, that is media Hype. He is currently training at the Crows,
And will play there next year unless a deal gets done that benefits the Crows. You do realise he has been talking to the Coach there no bad feelings. playing and coaching wise.

Don't for once believe he will sit out a year or the Crows will not play him next year.

Unfortunately those important people don't include McGovern. The only one who really needs to be happy about playing with the crows

Yeah... i think, as you say, the reshuffle is whats required to get this over the line..

But who knows on the other point you made.. hes still training at the club and using club facilities (even though hes on annual leave) so obviously still feels very welcome and confortable within the club walls.. id say the burnt bridge is the Burton/hass one..

Surely you crows fans understand that saying you are happy to keep him is simply posturing. He clearly wants out for reasons beyond just going home and a little more money. He is unhappy there and will definitely be traded. So making yourselves feel better by saying we'll take our bat and ball and go home if we don't get what we want is like a child doing it for real!
Firstly he's from WA, not Vic, so no go home factor. Secondly, he's actually been training with the Crows playing group and the Crows are currently treating things as he'll be there next season, so you're wrong on that front too. If a deal gets done great, if not even better. The crows won't do what Carlton did and hold the other party to ransom, but they'll have a price and if Carlton refuse to get near it then they'll just tell Mitch exactly what Carlton told Gibbs - we clearly value you higher than they do.

I always find it funny how some of these bigfooty nutbags think. There really isnt any benefit for players to sit out a year just cause they want to play somewhere else. Mcarthy did it and look what the year off from footy did for him.

For starters who in their right mind would think they can just slot right back in after messing an entire year of footy. Add to that you look extremely unprofessional which at the end of the day dont make you very attractive to any potential employee.

I will mention it again the Crows will not trade M McGovern unless it benefits them, Full stop.

That can't be right. Surely the Crows will selflessly look at how much MM will benefit Carlton and roll over.

The List management team have mentioned it several times.

Well, if they said it 3 times it must be right. They are a crack team. They will trade MM if it benefits the Crows. Who wudda thunk?

Does not matter what you have heard from the Carlton camp. he will not be traded unless it benefits the Crows.

So I should just forget all the rumours that the Crows were going to just give us MM because it benefits us? Ok.

No, you are going too fast. He will play for the Crows if a deal is not done. Ahh, got it. Is that because he has 2 more years on his contract?

But seriously, the question of the value of MM to Adelaide should be front and centre of their thinking.

First off I suggest you start with looking at the prospective 2019 team. There is a thread up on the Adelaide Board picking teams. Not one of those teams has MM in it. Just sayin. But that is good because it shows what the Crows will look like next year in the most unlikely event MM is traded this year.

I give one example below for illustration purposes. The poster has Jenkins rucking and Jacobs out of the side which seems a bit odd but otherwise seems like a pretty good effort. And it has Rankine in it which requires a bit of a draft stretch or trade. Apparently the Crows are likely to trade toothpicks for Tyson Stengle so maybe he gets in if you can't get Rankine.

A Crows poster's 2019 picks

Brown- Talia - Doedee
Smith - Keath - Laird
Seedsman - B Crouch - Gibbs
Gallucci - Walker - Lynch
Betts - Fogarty - Rankine

Jenkins - Sloane - M Crouch

Milera - Greenwood - McPherson - Atkins

I wonder if the aforementioned illustrious Adelaide List Management Team have done their own drafts?

If they did my guess is that the biggest weakness isn't medium marking forwards. Players like Kelly, Ottens, Himmelberg and Hartigan come to mind as plausible alternatives if not quite like-for-like, as is Fogarty who is named in the team.

The biggest weakness in the above team is Jenkins as first ruck. Leaving that stupidity to one side (Jenkins will play at FF and as second ruck to O'Brien if Jacobs isn't in the team) the next biggest weakness is your midfield. With injuries particularly to BC and Sloane you did not have enough contested ball winners and run and carry. When Douglas, McKay and CEY are the answer you know the question isn't "Who are the next generation Crows that will smash it round the packs in 2019".

I do not underestimate the talent of MM or the undoubted fact he would walk into any side that has Daisy in it. He will certainly improve the Carlton 22 head and shoulders above his obvious replacement (SOJ).

TLDR

The Ade List Management should value MM much lower than Carlton would. The most significant improvement to the Ade team would be better draft picks to improve your chances of getting the mids you will need. You can (relatively easily) carry the loss of MM.

For Carlton MM would significantly add to our best 22, particularly as a source of goals, something we lack. He will likely add more to our team in 2019 than any draft pick in 2018. We have plenty of draft picks we are already waiting to "mature" into AFL quality players. That doesn't make him worth pick 1. But it does mean unless egos get in the way a deal will be done.

And none of the above makes any mention of the fact that for some reason MM doesn't want to play for the Crows any more. When Henderson left Carlton for Geelong we reacted pretty immaturely IMO by not playing him at the end of the season. And we didn't do our trade negotiations any favours either.

Reid has already come out and said to expect both Sauce and O'Brien to be in the starting team next year, so your team list needs work. McPherson was injured for much of last season and is unlikely to make our starting side, so you can swap him out for O'Brien. Keith is probably unlikely to get a game over Hartigan (not that I agree with it but seems to be the pecking order).

Sloane, both Crouch brothers and Gibbs gives us plenty of ball winners so I disagree we have a shortage there + we have CEY and Patrick Wilson who could at any stage slot into the inside mid position. Douglas is a gun and will 100% be in our side, probably with Fogarty missing out until he spends more time in the midfield and builds up stamina to play inside mid where he'll likely stay for us as opposed to playing in the forward line.

We have plenty of guys to provide us run, including Milera, Smith, Seedsman and Atkins so again I don't think we have any shortages there + B Crouch gives us leg speed in the middle. What the team lacks is a forward to crash packs and provide strong leads, as well as a small forward to apply forward 50 pressure. McGovern gives us the first of those needs, hence why we rate him highly + he was to fill the boots of Jenkins as he continues to slow down/retires, so essentially moving forward McGovern would be the main/mature forward we would rebuild our forward line around when Jenkins and Tex leave.

Exactly.

Plus... it wont be just the one year he sits out.. it’ll be two years..

And even then he wont be a free agent.. he’ll just be an uncontracted player and any club that still may want him will have to trade for him with adelaide..

Two years of no football for a 24 year old player would be close to career ending.

He stays at adelaide and he’ll play his guts out next year in the hope he gets another chance at a trade at the end of next year.

Hes a proffessional footballer.. not a 15 year old.

Nice lot of work put into that comment. mean little because
At the End of the Day, the Crows will not Trade McGovern unless it benefits them, simple as you put it.
And if the there trade Price is not met he will Play for the Crows in 2019 and play some good football.
Not rocket science.
There will be a few rumours and lot of Posturing By Young and co. but nothing will change. The Trade will not happen unless it benefits the Crows.

PS what makes you think Carlton want McGovern for there forward Line. If he gets traded he will play Defence for Carlton pinch-hitting in the Forward line.

Unfortunately, for you, McGovern is training at the Crows and in contact with the Coach. and will start Preseason with the Crows if a trade is not made.
If Mitch is so content to stay at the crows why is he trying to leave with two years left on his contract?

No you won't. Crows supporters can't seriously think he will be there next year. It is just posturing. He is unhappy at the crows and it ain't just about going home or money.
If it's a choice between a dud trade and calling a weak bluff, I know what I'd be doing. Nobody at Adelaide believes that Mitch is going to pull a McCarthy.

I don't think he has, It's just how the crows faithful in this thread are making him sound and talking down the obvious issues he must have at/with the club.
I don't think anyone thinks he's content, if he was this thread wouldn't exist. Both he and the crows are showing they're professional by him training with the main playing group and treating it as business as usual, and what that indicates is there's no reason to expect the crows will accept some low ball offer because if Carlton don't come to the table then the Crows know that they'll have Mitch for another year at least and plan as such. So either Carlton start dealing more than a chocolate bar and a can of coke, which is what the Carlton fans seem to keep trying to shove down our throats that he's worth, or expect Mitch's knee to the back of one of your defenders heads when you play the Crows next year.

So from this thread I've learnt Carlton fans would take the opinion and words of Terry Wallace and Kane Cornes over the opinion and words of AFC officials directly involved in the trade..
Well yes ..because Crow officials are knob heads who think they can get a first round pick for a player who says he wants out, and has even nominated another club he would rather play for . seriously deluded posturing by the Crows ..pure and simple.

And Carlton have a list management team that only know how to trade out players, bring in GWS rejects and exploit a player that carried your club for years and refuse him a reasonable trade home for personal issues. Seriously deluded postings by Carlton supporters thinking they're some kind of destination club.

You can read but not comprehend? Just a guess.

Umm, its worse than "not rocket science", (except for the contingent prediction of how well he will play for you next year, which is drivel unless you have some window into the future - in which case your Melbourne Cup tip please).

PS what makes you think Carlton want McGovern for there forward Line. If he gets traded he will play Defence for Carlton pinch-hitting in the Forward line.

Medium tall defenders we are fine. Marchbank, Plowman, Macreadie and Williamson can all play that position, if fit. Even Docherty. Losing Byrne (if we do) creates a hole in the small defender role for which only the aged Simpson (and Docherty) has shown proven ability.

We also have a hole in medium tall forwards. That's why SOJ gets games. No doubt MM can pinch hit in the back line but Carlton's lack of scoring power is surely no secret.

The trade of MM (seemingly accepted by Crows fans picking best 22 next year) is an obvious win win win.

It is a win for MM because he doesn't want to play for you (please, just accept this unpalatable truth) and he does want to play for us (please, just accept this equally unpalatable truth).

It is a win for the Crows because whether or not you need bolstering in the midfield there is NO way you need MM's forward marking prowess to win a flag - what with Tex, Jenkins, Ottens, Fogarty, Himmelberg etc. Improved draft picks can improve your chances of drafting talent elsewhere.

It is a win for Carlton because we don't need more youngsters selected with draft picks to prove after 2 or 3 years they can, or can't, play. We already have a list choked with "promise".

Only ego at the trade table will stop it happening. I suspect the 2 clubs will present the other with their wish list in the trade. I suspect that will not do it initially. I suspect armed with Crows expectations SOS will do other deals and keep the Crows in the loop to see if any sweeteners to close the gap will do it. Sooner or (more likely) later the Crows will take what they see is the end of the line in Carlton's offer and the deal will be done.
