He's a quality player, and will give you guys an option up forward and can play in the middle when asked.

i believe the club knows roughly where it stands now, and how it will be affected if we were to sign players like russell etc as free agents

We just reduced any compensation we might get by a third round pick anyway, and I find it hard to believe the reduction in compo for Monfries would've been any worse than that. And in return, Essendon get a third round pick they definitely wouldn't have received!

I don't see the win if we got locked into a stupidly long FA contract, rather than say a 2 year deal.

So far we have seen that FA has meant clubs are having to pay overs to secure players; on the plus side though regardless of whether you think it's worthwhile you will get four years out of Gus no problem.
