I really enjoyed this yrs GF....simply a good GF with two good sides and some good momentum swings. Enjoyed it.

Unfortunately the tight GF's between two even sides dont happen as often as we like...walkovers in GF's seem more common than tight games over the yrs.

02 was a damn good one to watch too.

2005 for mine - surrounded by Swans supporters, going up as "one" with Leo's mark and having my Swans mate shout me booze for the entire evening!:thumbsu:

Also enjoyed 2004 (strangely) - got to cheer on Byron Pickett by screaming out Choppy each time he touched it on the way to his NSM and ending the era of the Lions (can't stand eras).

1996 - It was just a weird day all around, actually seeing Sydney in a GF and thinking that they were going to win at halftime kinda did my head in...was a good game though. :thumbsu:

1997 - At the time I think every single Victorian was supporting the Saints. It was hard to swallow that day, even non Saints people were actually crushed to see the cup go to Adelaide - I was one of them, but it was a very good game of football now that I can look back on it without the extreme Victorian bias.

2004 - Not the greatest game ever but I was so damn happy that Brisbane didn't make it 4 in a row. I was barracking very hard for Port that day, something that will probably never happen again.

2005 - Although it was a pretty ugly spectacle it was bloody great to see the Swans win after so long in the wilderness.

2006 - A much better and more exciting game than the year before IMO.

2008 - Not the closest or most exciting GF ever but it was a pretty intense contest. Was great to see Crawf win one. I had a foot in each camp that day. Didn't want Geelong to win and equal our record breaking 2000 season and I didn't want Hawthorn to win either coz....well they're Hawthorn :p

'89 - what a game! I blame this game for my out and out addiction to AFL.
'08 - Really enjoyed the contest/matchups/intensity/execution etc. This and the 89 GF are the only non West Coast premiership GF's that I have wanted to watch more than once.
'02 - great close game. Was barracking for Lions but lots of respect for young Pies to take them on and give it a shake

I had a huge bet riding on the Bloods in 2005. I was probably screaming louder than anyone in that final quarter.

Collingwood were poised to steal the flag in 2003. I felt certain of that. Eddie and the B/W hordes were already becoming unbearable, so to see the wounded Lions crush them in the first half was one of the more awesome sights I've ever seen in football. I loved those Matthews-coached teams. I adopted them as my 2nd side from the time he took over in 1999. Gee, they overcame a few hurdles to win that 3rd flag.

In 1997, I felt sad for the Saints and their fans, but happy for Darren Jarman. He was an under-appreciated football genius in his time at Hawthorn. To see him rip that game apart, just completely own that last quarter, stick it up every one of his Victorian critics and become an Adelaide legend was satisfying for this football purist.

2002 and 2003 for me. On both occasions I was surrounded by collingwood supporters and had no greater joy than cheering the lions on.

1989.....it had it all.
Probably the best televised GF ever.
Anything before 1975 I can't really comment on. The games are never the same if you did not watch them on the day.

everyone says 89 get over it and be original! Get serious and think of another one! How about the battle of 47. Who could forget when barry churdley kicked 8 on half a leg! Il never forget that match. Sitting next to my the late great fred squitten! What a match! QUOTE=MickZu;13016288]Probably been done before but I'm curious to know.

Mine is the 89' Hawks / Cats.[/QUOTE]

As a Hawks supporter I can not add a vote to the 89 flag but I seriously believe it was the best I have ever seen and I was there. It was brutally tough on all players with many hard instances.

However I still remember 77 and everyones reaction as to what happened with the result. The shock on both the players and supporters face when all realised it was a draw. This uncertainty and then the realizationt that we had a second grand final the next week was huge. Bathurst and the NRL flag was also around that time so I can remember being parked in the lounge room watching sport on 7 and 9 all the time.

This one.

LMAO!!

likewise.

Would probably be 2003.

Brisbane were awesome that day and Simon Black is probably my favourite player outside the Eagles and to see him absolutely carve the pies up was something special.

I know it wasnt a close game but they were well and truly switched on. Had the pies not kicked 4 or 5 late goals in that game it could have been another 2007 GF Blowout.

I think 2001 was probably the one. You could sense that we were witnessing the emergence a team that was going to do some special things over the next few years. Added to that, I'm a huge fan of Lethal, not a fan at all of Sheedy.

All through 2001, there was talk over this unbeatable force called Essendon, and very few people realised a better team was closing in on them .. very much like the 2008 Grand Final :)

Beat me to it Adelaide Hawk.

I absolutely loved 2001.

Also to see those old Fitzroy fans in tears after the match was special.

Also seeing the red and blacks (what is their name again...) absolutely shattered.

Gave me one of the biggest thrills seeing Hird on hands and knees in misery.

I had daydreams of Sheedy ripping up plans for the "Premiership Extension Wing" to Ordinary Hill.

A joy of a game!!!!
