Thats weird. Either he is commuting, their calling it quits, or he doesnt plan being around very long.'The Lions confirm Davis’ long-term partner, Breeanna Brock, will remain in Brisbane to continue her role as Lions Head of Women’s Football'
Well, she's halfway through a season right now to begin with.Interesting.
We like doing that, nicks never been a head coach, kelly, silvers, Reid.I guess what concerns me is that he's never been a coaching director, and the club has never employed someone in this role before. I just hope he doesn't suck but stays in the role for ages because the club doesn't know what a good coaching director would look like or what the role should even be.
Interesting.
Lions' W footy boss to stay despite Crows' coach poach
Bree Brock will remain Brisbane's head of AFLW despite her partner joining Adelaide as director of coachingwww.afl.com.au
seems a bit odd - his partner staying with Brisbane AFLW and mentions their son starting high school so not wanting to relocate him
Someone that knows a bit about Murray as a coach
How do you know he isn't a well respected tactician? He's a line coach, of course he would require some tactical nous. Developing an elite defender like Harris Andrews requires a strong level of tactical understanding for the defensive area of the ground. He oversaw a very high scoring forwardline for 2 seasons.Interesting insight. Its always tough to judge assistant coaches from a fans perspective.
These tweets give me a little concern, though as I was really hoping we would get a known tactician and high level footy brain into the club.
You know someone that could point out the glaringly obvious selection/strategy gaffs that Nicks always makes.
A coach that would say before Rd 2 2023 - Hey Nicksy maybe its not a good idea to go into a game against Tom Lynch, Jack Riewoldt and 205cm Samson Ryan with only one KPD (you know before they kicked 8 goals between em).
Or a coach that would say before rd 12, 2024 - Hey Nicks maybe we shouldn't go into a match on the MCG against the very quick and fast Hawks with our slowest and most cumbersome backline of the year. I mean do we really need 3 KPD in Butts/Borlase/Keane to take on Chol and 4 game Dear - especially when we are already going tall up the other end of the ground with Fog, Walker and Burgess?

You honestly very rarely hear about coaches tactical minds these days, the line is always 'strong player manager'. If he was more suited to purely player management/development, there are different roles clubs can shift you into. To me, staying as a line coach for over a decade is proof of someone with a decent tactical brain.I haven't said he isn't, its just that nobody has come out and suggested he is.
People in the media and rumors suggest that his strength is player development. He has been in charge of developing Brisbane's individual units - not the gameplan as a whole.
I am not knocking him, just think if he was a brilliant tactical mind - it would be what everyone would be talking about.

Silvers said just now on radio that Davis will sit between nicks and the assistants. Taking workload of Nicks.
That was the Rucci rumourDoes this appointment mean that we are not getting Brett Montgomery involved at all, I may have missed something here, but was big news not long ago about him departing GWS to come to us?
So he's the senior assistant, but with a fancier name?
Yeh pretty much.So he's the senior assistant, but with a fancier name?
Whilst it may seem like layers of bureaucracy, it's not necessarily a bad thing - Nicks needs to evolve, so this could be a way to do it.Silvers said just now on radio that Davis will sit between nicks and the assistants. Taking workload of Nicks.
It's appearing that way as he is effectively between Nicks & the other coaches... & does not sound like Burns is a senior assistant anymore... so probably a case of being nice to Burns. So he's the senior assistant, but with a fancier name?
Going to be interesting to see if we notice any differenceIt's appearing that way as he is effectively between Nicks & the other coaches... & does not sound like Burns is a senior assistant anymore... so probably a case of being nice to Burns.
Sounds like he will take over some of Nicks' duties, which is basically an admission that he's not up to the senior coach role but don't want to admit they got the extension wrong.
Hopefully he is going to take over from Nicks with strategy & matchday moves...Going to be interesting to see if we notice any difference
Sounds like he has a strong/solid development background, so with Bello leaving perhaps it was an easy way to try and kill 2 birds with 1 stone
I got the impression reading somewhere that the intent is for him to take over some/alot of Nicks admin work to free up more of his time (and head space)
Nicks will be able to pretend he's Hinkley and park himself on the bench while the other coaches run things from the box.Hopefully he is going to take over from Nicks with strategy & matchday moves...
