Why didn't we just get a ruckman in the first place. The Norward player was available.

I think we still had a 2nd pick in the midseason draft.
Well ....no-one wanted Boyd, and he had the perfect age profile

Might pay to hang five on that.
Boyd may yet get picked up in the supplementary period which runs until sometime in February.

I doubt the Saints thought they were a chance at Dodson going as late into the 2nd night and obviously he was too good a prospect to passover at that point.

Bacs did suggest Dodson had an off field issue in the lead up to the draft, if that was the case it must have been pretty ordinary for him to slip that far, either that or recruiters weren't sure about his commitment to AFL

Can Toby Murray ever be a lead ruck at AFL level?

Depends on how much value a team puts on ruck craft.

At a club that doesn't put a whole lot of value in ruck craft outside of just competing there? Murray has a good shot seeing his around ground game is rather solid for a potential ruck, plus a relatively strong forward game.

A club that does? Minimal chance.

If Geelong or swans recruiting team don’t like Dodson, neither do I.
Yep, GEEL were the pre-draft hyped team to take Dodson .....it was even suggested by Twomey they may trade up 4-5 spots to get him

In the end they stayed in their Draft position, yet still overlooked Dodson

Packed on some serious size!!

He’s done some serious work in the gym

Obviously been reading our List Management forum on needing to draft a ruckman

The lad has a great athletic profile but probably needs to add another role to his game because it’s hard to see him breaking in to the team as a KPF

I do rate Toby's potential as a tall forward who can also pinch hit in ruck, eg the role that Thilthorpe plays. Good to see him looking in such good nick. Hope he comes on and fills his potential as it would be good to have a quality understudy in case TT gets injured or misses a large slab of footy, as happened this year.

Thats an insane transformation in 6 months. Would have to be close to 15kgs difference in playing weight. Although im sure that will come down after another few months of running sessions.

There was discussion on one of the topic threads as to whether Tyler Welsh is 191cm or 192cm as he was listed at 192cm in at least one publication. Maybe the Crows don't even know. On the Players Page of the Crows website it has Toby listed at 200cm's in the top left of Toby's Page, but in the player bio information below he is said to be 201cm's. We may be splitting hair's, but interesting enough given the previous conversation.

There’s all kinds- Sean Darcy, Mumford monster types can work.

Dunno about his ability to carry that huge frame around the ground all day without getting too gassed.
Players tend to be at their heaviest at this point of the year, once their running loads increase and their in season he'll drop some kilos. Could easily have just come out the gym and had a nice pump.

Just for argument's sake, I think we need to see his left arm before we start jumping to conclusions

Those two shots are also taken at very different angles. You're always going to look bulkier from a side angle than front-on.
Upset boo this-man.gif

Next you'll be spoiling Christmas

Just seems a little too short for a full time AFL ruckman. I'd be very curious to see what a twin tower setup with thilthorpe looks like though.

What's his neck length like?

Less facetiously, there are plenty of AFL rucks around 201cm Xerri, ROB, Marshall, Briggs, Grundy are all within 1cm of his listed height.
