Some posters on their board are whinging about us even now. They just don't get it. I didn't like Hawthorn before 2008 but it was the most classless reaction I'd ever seen by a supporter group when they won. As others have pointed out, four years later several of them still have avatars of Geelong players crying that day and "2008" is a standard response to any thread about Cats v Hawks.

I know some very decent Hawks supporters who I feel bad for. But many of their supporters on BF are arrogant, nasty, self centered people. No sympathy for them.

Two of my best mates are Hawthorn fans, both knowledgeable and extremely fair-minded supporters. Interestingly, both sadly acknowledge the stereotype that exists. I wished them both luck before yesterday, but apart from them their supporter base can rot in hell.

I agree, I think some Cat fans need to reel it in a bit.
We went on and on about how the Cats are so humble in victory (and since this is a moral victory, we can claim it) I think we need to be better than we have been (I've been one aswell).
Maybe its time to drop the Swans avatars? Remember we are Cats fans but I dont mind the Sooky Hawk avatars going around (*whistles*).

Was so good watching the Hawks lose yesterday. I know a few Hawks fans and they were all cocky and even said they had it in the bag, can't wait to see them now haha.

Also, a couple of weeks ago, I was at a family outing and one of my mates' dads put on his 2008 Hawks Premiership top, trying to rub it in my face and was saying, "2 flags in 4 years, not bad", and i mean he was dead serious, so confident that the Hawks would win.

What do you expect from someone who can't even do simple maths. 2 in 4 years? What a nitwit. lol

Im pleased they lost for the following reasons (1) They have caused us a bit of pain over the years -so it will be good to see them suffer-im trying to think of that Johny Cash song-theres a line it -goes something like this "Its Sunday morning-and i want to be knocked out -stoned out "-something like that -just cant cope with the pain of it anymore -just as the Hawks supporters would be feeling this morning

The second reason im glad they lost -is they havent lost that many GFS -so its only human nature -that you would like them to lose one . Its a bit like that Rugby League coach Wayne Bennet -i think his record is 7 gfs for 7 wins at multiple clubs -but his flags at the Broncos really irked me -because they were gifted a state team just like the Eagles -so i want Bennet one day to suffer the pain of losing a gf -something like 50 nil

Fox Footy right now playing "AFL: 2012 Premier's Qualifying Final - relive the 2012 premier's road to the Cup with the Qualifying Final". So what are they are playing - Collingwood vs Hawthorn!

Pre-programming gone wrong? Bruce will be happy anyway.

Sorry MM, but respectfully disagree. I don't know about anyone else, but in the last few years I've reached the limit of patience when it comes to interacting with these scumbags; there is never a hint of respect, tolerance, humility or decency discussing football with them. They exist only to denigrate other club's achievements - which they do endlessly and with genuine malice. For supporters who've been around a while, we all know that Hawthorn supporters have been insufferable for much longer than 2008, I could effortlessly extend it by another couple of decades. (There just wasn't as many of them). You get to the point where you've had enough.

So they can suck huge gorilla balls right now and choke on them. Blew a 12 point lead in the last quarter. The opposition had at least 4 players injured. They had twice as many free kicks. They had Bruce salivating over every one of Cyril's (highly ineffective) possessions.

Screw them. Hope they drown in their own tears. They deserve to be treated now as they have treated not just Geelong but all opposition fans forever.

Good post.

personally, I went over to their board for a laugh and a look-see, didn't make any comments (may have 'liked' one post which was particularly amusing; overall I consider that showing great restraint on my own behalf after some of the Hawthorn muppets I've had to deal with over the past few years).

I agree that generally Geelong supporters should remain humble and respectful, why sink to their level, but I can't say I haven't enjoyed seeing Hawthorn supporters having to eat a bit of humble pie for once.

No sympathy for Hawks at all. Have said since about August they premierships are never sure things. Everyone in the media has very short memories of 12 months ago when pies were unbackable...even during the finals. Yet they still harped on that it is foregone conclusion. Whatever sells papers i suppose.

This is the sweetest moment! All their fans are now saying it is the start of an era! Because future premierships are guaranteed like this years one???

Winners are grinners and losers can go f#$* themselves.

Meh Hawks haven't improved much on last year.. Geelong and Collingwood declined.

Oh and for those that say ease up.. Think about the reverse if it was Geelong there in place of Hawthorn

And did you not see their reaction when we lost to Freo?

If you dish it out, you better be able to take it back.. no team stays up for ever...

they started whinging when the All-Australian 2012 nominees were released, a couple couldn't understand why Geelong had more players nominated than their illustrious own

Fully endorse this thread.
Whilst stirring them up on their board is over the top, everything else is fair game.
They are the worst winners EVER (08) and now they can enjoy the same misery we did in 2008.
This is footy - no one died so I believe it's perfectly fine to celebrate in another sides agony when called upon.

I have noticed that how arrogant a Hawthorn supporter generally is, is based on their age.

Walking back to my car after we beat Hawthorn Rd 19, I was talking to an elderly Hawks supporter, who was very humble, and said that he was following Hawthorn when they struggled in the forties and fifties, so that keeps him in his place.

I notice that the most arrogant Hawks supporters range from 40-or younger. Most of them have only seen their team in finals, GFs and winning flags (70's, 80's, etc). Aside from 1995-2005, Hawthorn have generally been competitive, so think that success is their birthright, and don't think that it has to be earned.

Yet you have an avatar of Buddy crying after losing the GF!

My feelings?

Pure delight. Simple, pleasurable delight.

Delight in catching the local shopkeepers taking down all their poo and wee as if nothing had happened.

Delight in the lightness of foot and feel that Summer will be just that much sweeter.

Delight in the knowledge that we are still the last Victorian team to win a flag.

Delight in going into next year's first Hawks game with a record of 9-zip, and two added flags.

It's not just Wilson. F%^K ME I have never seen such love from the media for a losing team in GF, you would think they only played with 15 men instead of the 19 they had on the ground!! They must all be feeling like idiots for declaring Hawthorn unbackable favourites.

Well according to these Journo's we mays wel give them next years Cup now. Like F%^K how many teams have said there's always next year and then failed.

Ask the Pies of 2011...

Exactly.

I have enjoyed Sydney's win as much as the next guy, but it really isn't necessary to go over to the Hawks board and start stirring shit. For one, it's more than enjoyable to sit back and read through their boards without actually getting involved, and two, I really cringe reading Geelong fans being douchebags on other teams boards, especially when it revolves around arrogance and general lack of class. I'd like to think our club in general holds itself in pretty high esteem and despite our recent success, the club is still generally well-liked by other fans which says a lot about they way they carry themselves. If you want to stick the boots in, head to the Bay and go for your life.

Yeah pretty much agree with all of this. While I utterly loathe everything to do with Hawthorn and thier supporters and take great delight in seeing them suffer, it's a bit much to go into someones house and get stuck into them. We know theyd be the first ones in here shit stirring us if we were in thier position, but we also know we're better than them in every facet and shouldnt sink to thier level in doing this. Let's just be content in having a little giggle at some of the posts hawks fans are spewing up.

That being said, I think there's definitely a place for letting our feelings be known and i'm all for my fellow cat supporters sinking in the boots anywhere else on these boards, makes for some very entertaining reading lol. And seeing so im in my own backyard here let me just say.....

Suck it Hawthorn, you overrated chokers!! I hope the pain never goes away you worthless pretenders! Your tears are delicious :D

THIS!

I respect and admire the Hawthorn team of the 80-90s because they were as good as they claimed to be, I can still watch the 89 GF and admire the great gamesmanship and tough players from both sides.
Sadly their fans and culture are now far more accurately described in the passage above.
**** Hearttorn I say, deserve everything they get!
