Why wouldn't we name Currie or Murphy?

Currie was very restricted on Saturday Bonza, in his short time in the ruck he hardly jumped, he was not fit. In relation to everyone else their strengthening the team now where close to round 1.

Im more interested to see Meredeth not among the starters.

Shaw has been shouldering a fair bit of work in the NAB cup and against Melbourne so I hope the work is easy. I hope Thornton gets a shot in this game to have a run. After all the bad news he's had something to give him a whisper that by working hard this year there is something for it.

D.O'Keefe and Laidlaw removed from the other practice match sides as the team gets closer to round 1 . I would read something into that. nor is Jake O playing, belive it or not if Pyke has a decent game it is looking possible for him to get a game in round 1.

I know he was but surely he was better for the run.....I mean he didn't do that badly...

Why can't we rest Jolly as well his going to have a big enough season as it is without playing all the preseason games.......I hope in all honesty next week we rest Him and play Currie and Pyke the best performed gets the 2nd ruck spot...

Give the big fella a run. Could he possibly be any worse than Chambers?

Agreed :thumbsu:

Why not meredith :(

Scott Russell was, sorry he wasn't a ruckman. Michael Parsons was as bad as Chambers.

Parsons certainly wasn't a champion but he was nowhere near as bad as Chambers. Averaged 9.5 possessions and chipped in with a goal every 2nd game certainly weren't disgraceful by late 1980's standards. Plus he was playing in a rabble.

A couple of other quick facts, he was a talented NBL basketballer with the Adelaide 36ers before playing AFL, and unfortunately is now ill with a brain tumor

Revised squad just announced: Orreal (named Jack on the wire) is in the side.

Agreed :thumbsu:

agree, rest Jolly, hes our most important player this year...

Roos although once touted as the newbie "Sundance Kid" now enjoys extremely good relations with 2 maybe more coaches... esp Ross and Rocket.

This game RESULT is meaningless!

Eade and Roos have always co-operated on the developmental aspect of practice games but Swans are fielding almost best available so obviously Roosey rates the Dogs in 09?

Bedford this is one you can lay a $tenner on for a by the nose win!!!;)

PS re Meredith... "treat 'em mean & keep 'em keen"

Sorry, I meant Brabazon, not White.

Barlow, Brabazon, MOD, Thornton, Crouch and Pyke, though Pyke may make it in at the expense of perhaps White.

If Pyke is picked ahead of White, it would surely mean only one thing: White is dead.
Otherwise, there is no possible reason for playing Pyke ahead of White, even if it means playing White as back-up ruck. At this stage, he is years ahead of Pyke as a footballer.

True, but they play completely different positions.

At this stage, both players are regarded as potential back-up ruckmen, right? Hardly "completely different positions".
My point is/was if it comes down to picking a back-up ruck and the choise is between Pyke and White, I cannot see any way possible Pyke would get the nod.

Pyke I think will 'physically' get through the season, but I havent really seen much of either of them......

White will be a gun. He looks a lot fitter, and leaner, than last season. He will be a major player at the Swans for years to come.
Pyke, right now, remains a novelty act. All credit to him for what he's achieved, and his attitude seems outstanding, so in that regard he'll continue to improve.
But as far as Australian football goes, Jesse White is ready for senior football now. Pyke, despite the fawning enthusiasm of certain young posters, still has a long, long way to go.

He might yet be selected in our round 1 side. I just can't see it, but I could be wrong.

White focus in the games to date has not being in the ruck. I think I saw him take one contest in the forward line against Melbourne. He was most definitely looking to play as a key forward in that game.

Pyke was given the ruck job against the dees and Bateman he did it admirably. I'm sure Currie is ahead of him but if he's is not fit and Pyke plays I don't see it as White career dead as Roos seems to be training him up front.

Personal insults aside, Pyke will make a senior debut this year. Bookmark it.

Roos said on radio that the side that they will play the first half as full strength, a run in for round one.

Second half they will rotate the players, and give the younger guys a go.
First half will be the best indication we have had so far. I wouldn't pay too much attention to the second half of the game.
