man. must be lovely to watch quality test cricket at grounds like this.

I’d love to experience the history of a few of the English grounds and the vitality of some of the Indian ones just to tick them off the bucket list but man give me this, Galle, Newlands, some of the Caribbean grounds like Windsor Park Dominica, Darren Sammy stadium and on a warmer day Bellerive, any day.

Is O'Rourke a worse bat than Chris Martin? Martin at least averaged above 2

From what I have seen O'Rourke is better, he at least knows which end of the bat to hold and has a decent defence unlike Martin.

I don’t wish ‘ill’ on any player as such - there’s obviously players I want to see succeed or fail more than others but I don’t openly hope someone’s career dies or they end up an abject failure; it’s their profession and livelihood.

But this Bethel experiment is taking Bazzball to a far bigger extreme than any run-rate or declaration ever has.

I get picking a fast scoring county batsman with a mid 30s average who can smack a century and take a game away from an opponent over a stodgy type who has been averaging 40 over a decade and poses no threat to a decent test opposition. It’s proactive and different.

I don’t get this. It reeks of doing something for the sake of doing it.

You'll never heard the end of it if he gets a score too

Oh it will be vindication of the highest level: ‘our selectors and tactics are spot on, we knew better’ etc.

To be perfectly honest his technique looks quite sound despite a lot of plays and misses. He doesn’t follow the ball

That would have been very cruel for yr first wicket to be a no ball. Thought Bethell looked pretty good out there but in the sheds for 9 on debut is a fail
