Have I missed something? Hasn't he played most of his cricket as an opener? If so, why do people insist he's a number three?

I would much rather he opens with Warner myself

he's played pretty much his entire first career at 3 and 4.

opens occasionally, but rarely (maybe never. i can't be arsed checking but i think he has on a handful of occasions)... from 109 first class innings i'd be suprised if more than 10 were opening.

opens in one day cricket fairly often.

Tend to think Playing #3 for West Australia in the last 10 years , you are pretty much an opener after the first 3 balls of each innings anyway !!

.. Probably get to face a ball before the opener at the Non Strikers end !

Invers & Marshy will know this !!!!!!!!!

at the end of the day if you can bat at number three, you can open the batting. very rare for this not to be the case. funnily enough one of our best ever number 3's, ricky ponting, is probably a case where this wouldn't be the case given he has always had the tendancy to fall across his stumps early in his innings. coming up against the new ball every innings and still doing that is tough work.

I honestly don't understand why Marsh is being looked to as a Saviour.

He's not that good, and he's constantly injured.
I agree, really, but he had a couple of good innings to start with which means he's awesome (because we need instant success from our debutents, to try and cover the failing veterens).
