Yeah what Carlton ended up doing was usually the way Richmond tended to win games. Just grind the game out for three quarters before blowing the opposition away in the last.

This is just as bad as ducking your head for a high tackle free. Infuriates me. Both need to be stamped out and will help with reducing umpire abuse from fans. They honestly have to suspend the players by picking them up post game reviews, give them a week for play acting.

It's gross. AFL continuously punishes players doing the tough work.

Lay a tackle? Nah that's push in the back.

Get to a ground ball first? Nah that's contact below the knees.

Be first to an extremely contested ball? Sorry that's holding the ball.

As much as the pleasure of their fans disquiets me it’s clearly best for us and the legacy of this era (no matter what we achieve) if Essendon and Carlton can become top four sides while we are up. I still think it’s a real shame that we didn’t get to play Richmond in a final from 2017-2021 and I doubt that we will now, but I’d love to see North rise quickly as well and to get a repeat of the top four from 2000 (except with us on top) in four or five years.

Doubt Collingwood or hawthorn will be relevant while we are at our best. Cats aren’t a genuine contender irrespective of their ladder position, Saint Kildas are a joke and so far off it and The Western are already little more than bunnies, so Carlton and Essendon are our best chance of a true rivalry during the next few years I think. Imagine a QF/PF v either side at the MCG, that’s what football was made for.

I can see Carlton belting us in clearances and around the ball when we play them, their midfield potential for dominance is much greater than The Western IMO. Just a question if we continue to dominate at post clearance ground balls and force scores through turnover/forward pressure, and squeeze them in defence like we do other clubs. They played surge footy last night very successfully against a team with no capacity to control momentum but I don’t think we would give them such an opportunity so late in the game, only seems to happen in second quarters for us.
