Who the **** are you even talking to? In the non-Eagles thread somehow steering a rant into "sack Simmo propaganda". This board has been woeful lately... Im at risk of only seeing posts from about 20 people if I keep putting the peanuts on ignore.

Simpson was an assistant at Hawthorn, same as Beveridge

Yeah i agree the guy was being a pretty blatant troll, nevertheless he does explore some ideas that I find interesting.

For instance, he talks about how people are socialised into following the same sporting teams as their parents and then expands upon that microcosm by discussing how socially dominant ideologies likewise affect how people see the world and construct reality.

Now personally I find such an argument quite thought provoking, not just because I can relate to it on a personal level (I come from a family of Eagles supporters, and big surprise I too am a big Eagles fan), but that the argument also has broader implications. Essentially, he is entering into a debate about the role and nature of human agency. However, building upon these ideas he, as you mentioned, establishes some link between being socialised into following the same footy team as your parents and the way in which the Coalition has allegedly indoctrinated Australia and coerced us into voting for them. Like you i think that's a pretty weak connection.

In this sense, I like some of his premises, but I don't agree with his conclusions.

His premises, you mean like ' middle aged white people ' 'nationalism' and/ are 'nazis'..??
V
'Gay marriage' 'refugees' 'revolutionary' and 'get in for free'..

I'm surprised he didn't mention the holocaust..but I'll put that down to he simply forgot

If your really interested its called cultural Marxism and it's about the undermining of culture etc etc

Off-Season always brings out the nutcases, it'll just be worse this year as we ended the season poorly, and the salty ones among us are going to have 6 months to stew on their own anger.

I don't really understand what you are saying, but you certainly seem mad.

I'm not going to try to defend what he said, nor have I done so thus far. What I will say, however, is that the agency of individuals, and the degree to which said agency is influenced by the society in which we live, is an interesting topic of debate.

No worries, put simply ( and in imo )the rant you and spaceclef were talking about by that guy Brad Lee ticked all ( most ) of the boxes and was quite a good example of cultural Marxism social conditioning
Cultural marxism essentially being the destruction of ( white ) European culture thru the breakdown of the family unit etc
He even says - " I am a member of rather elite football family.., and I despise them for it too" etc

To counter as spaceclef said, quote
"For some reason I prefer the idea of following the team you were born into, rather than choosing your own side based on some assumed cultural reasons"
Sounds ok to me..

They will piss it up the wall because they have bigger problems than just their list.
Don't really care too much about Brissy themselves, AFL won't let them fail, but more happy about the priority pick system finally being fixed - makes tanking much less attractive.

You know it. It will forever be a Vic centric competition, but thats ok because when we take the cup home the tears will flow.
Exactly... give me another 2006 with all their tears, soooo sweet...
**** the 'everyone's second team' bulldogs mantra.

"Pricks didnt shake the kids hands"
"Half the squad are on meth"
"... flatline fletcher!"

And iirc there was a bit of a bitch about the umpiring, apparently we got the rub of the green ;)
