Footy is momentum stuff this year with 6-6-6. If we get momentum hawkins cameron and stengle can slam on goals in bunches. If our midfield and rhys can stand up for 4 weeks in finals we canwin it. But thats a huge if.

I will believe it when I see it. Too many times those 2 area's have gone missing for us, even when Danger and Selwood where elite top 10 mids in the comp.

Another interesting point.
Both Tom Papley's grandfathers (Max Papley and Jeff Bray) were teammates at South Melbourne 1964-66. That would be a rarity.

Im not jumping off the Dees - i thought in the 2nd half they were the better side - allways in front - looked to have the game under control - but somehow lost - 2 very iffy free kicks at the end sunk them

They have to do something about their key forward positions - if they had one half decent key forward tonight ( im not counting Gawn in this aspect - hes a resting ruckman ) they win by 5-6 goals under double wraps

They had Mitch Brown - a true journey man - and Ben Brown ( blooody hopeless ) - who has played 1 top game in the last 4 years - and that was you guessed it - against Geel in the PF - where he marked the ball like John Coleman - and destroyed Blicavs . Now hes gone back to his bad ways - stands down their like a windmill and is about as much use

Dont know the status ( whether they are injured or not ) but i think the Dees would be a hell alot better off with Tom McDonald and Weidamann as their 2 key forwards - back those 2 in for the rest of the season

I know it sounds crazy but if I was their coach I would play May up forward for a few weeks when he comes back.
Their defence will still hold up without him and he's a great mark and competes in every contest.

Said weeks ago Melbourne and Sydney are the best teams in it and my GF prediction still stand by that after tonight.
Great prediction. I still believe any team that peaks in September can do it.
Imagine a fully fit rampaging CARLTON, with their talented deep Midfield, twin KF 's, and their defence.
And SAINTS , FREO, LIONS, even us- all have reasons for hope.
Admittedly, everything has to go right for us and those teams to beat Melbourne, but we saw in 08 how the outright best team can go off.
I will not write off Tigers yet, but can't wait to do so.

The first free-kick was iffy and often umpires don't pay them, but the second one was in the back every day of the week.
Yeah there’d be 100 frees per game if they paid that Gulden one consistently.

So today we have Haw vs Coll no thanks pass then Froe vs Bris worth watching, that's what i hate about byes not much choice
They really should just move to a full bye and have the mid season draft and some Nab games during that week.

Surely the AFL can live 1 week without an AFL as well as making things more fair.

At the moment some teams have a shorter run into finals after the bye and some teams are forced to play others off a bye when they haven't had one yet.

The tv rights have too much sway in the scheduling of games imo

Played 6th form footy against Bob. He was like a bird plying over packs everywhere.
You are my vintage; how did you compare Flower with Turner, both AA together in 1979, and Greig, Wood and Hawkins?
Comp was blessed with champion wingers who were their teams' best players, not forgetting Schimma & Neagle,

We used to really look forward to G games with Turner v Flower and Wood etc

The array of possibilities that would be positive for footy in general is huge. The TV companies could be in on it as well. They are way too myopic in their views.

Played watched our teachers college footy team (with R Greene, S Icke, G Hutchison, M McCarthy) play against Turner at Geelong TC. He was great player and great for the Cats. Both Flower and Turner floated around but I think Flower had a touch more silkiness than Turner.

Amazing to think back on the players of that era who were just incredible to watch. Greig and Shimma were favourties.

And I got to watch Gaz Snr at training every week in the early 90's when I lived in Geelong for a few years, and he was the absolute standout I have ever seen by miles. Could do anything. Nice, humble guy then doing deliveries around town for Hovey's.

Well, it’ll be interesting to see if the Dees are just in a flat spot, or Freo and swans will be genuine threats, or dees regroup and romp away again.
dees v swans in the gf would be great based on the game last night- just two teams going hell for leather- it was great.

Turner was possibly a bit quicker, and an excellent mark, but Flower was polished on both sides as you said.
Who was better- Flower or Greig?

Greig by a bee's I reckon. Very hard choice. You?
Flower, just. At his best, the perfect winger. But so was Greig, although I saw less of him.I did see Turner actually beat Flower once or twice, hence the bias. I think Turner was a bit moody, but loved the challenge of playing on Flower, particularly at the G. But if it was wet or windy, he would go missing, whereas Flower put in every game he played. Greig v Flower- would loved to have seen that hth.
