most of the top four sides at the moment seem to be having incredible injury luck. Is nice for a change that we are apart of that group experiencing some good injury luck also.

a couple of injury hits for collingwood melbourne and sydney would be just about luck for the first time the next couple of weeks. get the voodo dolls out! bout time it was someone else

What good luck is that?

We've been dealing with injury issues all season, and if you looked a general consensus of our best 22s from the start of the season, I'm not sure there'd be too many weeks when all 22 would have been available

What has been good for us this season is that we aren't reliant on the same select few as previous seasons, while those fringe players who would only get an opportunity when a first choice player is out, have stepped up and playing a greater role than we've seen in recent seasons

i would say having an almost fit best 22 at the right time (now) is good luck. Was not referring to the H/A season duration, which as you have pointed out had some obstacles and work in the physio rooms.

Dangerfield (enforced rest with injury, some correct 50/50 "managed calls) and Selwood (much more regular rests) not being completely burnt out heading into our first final will be nice. As will having Stanley in career best form, Partfitt available, Guthrie and Duncan playing much better than last year, then Atkins and Blicavs adding a lot to the midfield. Holmes has added X factor through there and super running. Smith, Menegola, Touhy all pretty great options on the wing.

We look like heading in to finals with a midfield group you would back in more confidently now. With the diverse set of talents and attributes in there, maybe it's our best balanced and freshest midfield in a long time.

Because of Grundy's injury you mean??
I think even if Grundy played that Geelong/Melbourne GF is still the most likely. Collingwood's rucks are going okay.

If Pies meet Dees in a final I would back the latter. A bit like Geelong beating Richmond in regular season then getting done in finals. Or Port vs us in 2007. There's a stack of other examples.

There's no getting around Melbourne's deficient forward line and conversion. However I have a feeling they'll execute better come finals, a bit like the Freo game.

Was going to point out that their rucks were going fine and Grundy has been absent for a while now, so was hard to see his absence making any difference to their fortunes.

I'm not convinced by either team, but agree that the Dees are more likely to triumph if they meet again.

Whisper it quietly, but Geelong are currently a decent step above both those and Sydney.

The only questions remaining are will they maintain that form through finals and will any of the other contenders take the necessary big step up to challenge?

Are you secretly Tom Browne? 🤨

Good thing is also that Richmond is most likely going to have to play an interstate side week 1 of finals and hopefully they are gone.

Really, really hard to know.

If injury and covid are avoided, it'll come down to attitude and determination, and if 2008 taught us anything it's that, on the big day, nothing achieved prior really matters or gives any certainty.

I think we should remember that 99% of the time when a player retires it's because their club has told them they won't be renewing their contract next year. Not because they're retiring on their own terms or have made the big call. The call is always made for them behind the scenes, they're just given the chance to say publically they're retiring and making out it's their decision.

Just take the 2 weeks you idiot it is clear as day you lined him up and got it wrong.
Was never going to be any other outcome here, though. They're seeking to desperately cling on as their season slips away. So throwing some cash at the problem was never going to be an impediment to exhausting every prospect of avoiding suspension for their captain and talisman.

No additional weeks risked, so they were always going to roll the dice.

True but it would be nice of him to show some leadership and balls and say my bad i ****ed up and accept the 2 weeks.

Blues are going to miss finals and the punters aren't going to be happy about blowing a good start to the season. They won't overturn the decision at the tribunal but they'll be able to say that they did "everything" to try and get Cripps playing. Distraction from how poor they have been the last 8 weeks.

Fair enough. Two things about that, though...

1. I'm not sure he will (or should) feel that he did that much wrong. Split-second decision to attack the contest aggressively that ended up with a poor outcome for his opponent. It's not like he ran in swinging with a clear intent to pulverise the opposition player.

2. As captain, he will be desperate to be out there and help his team try and make their way into September. His 'team first' mentality (after what amounts to little more than a 'football act' gone somewhat wrong) will probably have told him to now do all he can to be available to steady the ship in these remaining games.

So I don't really have a problem with him/them spinning the wheel to see where it lands. If it was Rounds 12 and 13, I think they probably would have copped it. So the context is potentially quite important in understanding their response.

And I still think the suspension is upheld in the end, anyway.
