I wonder if we can read anything into Brown being omitted. I know he looks really underdone at the moment, but if we hoped to play him in round 1, surely he needs every practice match he can get?

Looks to me that they may have decided that he will start the season in VFL

Probably because they want to give Black and Wood a crack. Wouldn't read too much into it.

Maj was the key big man last week, I think from a ruck role they want to see what he and Goldy do together.

From a forward role again Maj played little time there last week so expect that to change while the mobile Wood and Black will be trialled as a different feel.

I would be surprised if Brown makes Rd1.

Would expect they want to try every Fwd combination possible coming up to round 1 to see what synergizes best.

Will be good to match up against a strong Hawks lineup....especially for players like Wood, Dumont, Tippett, McKenzie, Daw, and Durdin. The Hawks senior players always seem to take practice hit outs seriously, so its a great opportunity for these guys to test themselves against quality opposition. Very handy for us if the opposition keeps picking strong teams.

but the Selection Policy ended up with a team playing in the Prelim

So unless you think last yrs team Under Performed then its sort of difficult to see wot the point is?

sure the Selectors cld have dropped the Usual Suspects but they didn't and we won

so I mean it looks like they are right and you are well... how do I phrase this ..umm not right

We didn't win a flag so we underperformed, that is the gist of it. If you want to win a flag you have to do a lot of things right and you have to do things which are not great better than you have. This is one of many areas we need to improve at.

For example, Atley both excites me and shits me to tears. He excites me because of what he is capable of doing and we see one or two glimpses a game, and then for the rest of the game moves with about as much purpose as a blind man without a cane. He isn't a defender. He can't cut it as a midfielder at present. So we go through the motions picking him and moving him about.

Yet, we were kind of brutal on Wright, who did stink things up, but he went back to the VFL and did the hard yards and came back and he was probably one of the inspirations that saw us get to a PF.

I am hopeful the tough love being shown to McKenzie will see him become a better player. Players who haven't been tempered are going to end up being the weak links.

We are just inconsistent as shit when it comes to who gets the tough love and who gets the cotton wool treatment. If someone is that mentally fragile that they can't take the demotion then sign the papers now and save us years of misery.

I like the acquisition of Waite and Higgins, the issue is that the 'free spots' up forward for underachievers to occupy space in roles nobody was filling is over, so we have to evaluate the worth of everyone in the side, there is no room to carry anyone.

That's the proven formula of why the year in year out contenders to the flag stay up there and the 'pretenders' who rely on their 'handful of usual suspects' fall away come crunch time… last years PF berth wasn't a fluke. It was more about Brad Scott preparation that worked wonders for the team.

I know personally that my Swans member bro-in-law is scathing of certain players and sometimes brutal of the Horse's stubborn ways but he admitted North & Port are coming fast and the Swans can't afford to carry passengers themselves as he knows they have some.

Everything in here I agree with.

Except the assertion that Ats isn't a defender. He's a very good 1v1 player. Loses very few contests.

Goals, Atley, Forward. Too often that isn't the scenario.

As a defender in my youth, I just can't fathom poor defensive setups at stoppages in the defensive 50, the amount of soft goals we leak due to poor setups has to improve.
