[SIGH] Footscray did what they was suppose to do and that's comprehensively beat a bottom side.

What they also did, and have done int he past, is thoroughly expose our forward pressure and entries with their ability to dispatch and transition out of our forward line quickly and efficiently.

What they also exposed, as other teams as well, is we leave such a big gap between the ruck line and what would be defensive side of the square...l don't think it's that hard to have a man behind the ruck stoppage as our mids seemed to hit the go button only for the oppo to simply handball into that space with a player running on.

It was really a bad day at the office and l feel the loss against from WCE really hit home today mentally added to the loss of Chom and then Bergman in quick succession, and the doggies pounced.

I know there will be a leadership poll thread but Simpkin and McDonald just don't lead vocally or even have the tactical nous on how to slow their game down/bark orders or instruction..we don't need captains but leaders!!!

On coaching, Clarko made selection errors l feel, with English out l felt Duursma could've come in and also bring in W.Dawson to play on Darcy as, aside from Chom, we don't have the length to simply play on him and they exposed it!

As for a player-type review...l think the team is looking to the finish line and cudo's to Hansen Jr, Scott, Archer!!

Our 1st Q vs Freo and 1st half vs Coll are proof we are on the right track. It’s turning. Just gotta keep pumping games into the kids. Beating the Suns in round 24 last year was important. The AFL warned us not to tank, plus the win gave the guys nourishment, and set up a winning culture. We got to sing the song. Harley who? I’m happy with Duursma. He’ll be better than Reid. And Kane Cornes was so wrong about the mass exodus, we’ve signed and sealed all our top players. The fact that all of those we re-signed are B to C Graders didn’t seem to matter. We are just thrilled they stayed. I’m not concerned about our defence. We’ve got Biggy and Pink, plus the luxury of throwing Chom back if needed. The rot goes on and on and on.

Our list is an absolute mess. One classy ball user (Sheezel), 2 max (McKercher?) on our list despite access to multiple top 10 picks. No quality small forwards. A plethora of small poorly skilled, average paced mids. Co-captains that are on fumes but get the gig because they’re good blokes. A coach on mega bucks who is nearing half way through his contract and has been totally underwhelming. How? Why? It’s dead set infuriating.

I feel for our 20 to 30 year old supporters. They’ve seen so little success that any slim shred of positivity is fluffed up into raging success and optimism. The fact that anyone aged under 30 years of age still supports this club is amazing in itself. You guys deserve an apology from the club. Not a plea for patience and an empty promise that it will turn. This club has become that girl the cheats on ya. She promises it will never happen again. You forgive her, take her back. And just when you trust her again, she’s out the back of the barn shed up to her old tricks. But you can’t help yourself, you keep taking her back, hoping that this time, it’ll be different. But a month later you look back and ask “what was I thinking?”……

I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I most likely won’t see us play in another GF in my lifetime. But the 90’s were a blast. The club brought its supporters so much joy for a decade. It was a great ride. I’d love access to a Time Machine and go back to 1993 and do that 7 years again.

Their organisation & positioning gives them time and space to pick passes, their forwards lead, and they have good foot skills.

Went to my usual pub….grabbed some food and watched it all unfold….literally.
Really feel for those who turned up. Can’t be bothered flying off the handle over that performance.
Loosing players is never good and Charlie’s was horrifying to watch. Just compounded everything.
So many questions…when will it ever click, why do other teams seem to progress quickly while we’re in perpetual Groundhog Day. What is going on with our leaders. How do we continually get it so wrong in set plays…
Changes are coming but gosh it may be a bridge still to far to fix…
I’m glad to see the kids do well and grab their opportunities this season …but heck we need on field help to support them.

In an ideal world we'd throw a decent offer at Battle too, but not sure how we can offer a more attractive destination than the Hawks right now.

Bug it's not like we are pumping games into the kids. Our 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th pick in the draft last year and our first from a few yrs back didn't get a game yesterday whilst being fit. Yet we persist with Shiels, Tucker (was ok), McDonald and Co. I could cop a result like today if more of the younger crop are getting exposure but I don't think we are.

We have statistically been one of if not the worst team in AFL history over the past 5 years though? It's not hyperbole but actual fact

The fifth consecutive season we enter the last round as a live shot at the spoon.

St.Kilda 1982-86 is the only comparable team of such sustained shitness in my memory They won 4 of those spoons with 19 wins across the 5 years. We might win 3 spoons with 15 wins.

For so much of the game we did not appear to be on the same page.

we had a ramshackle first quarter but beyond it there was no cohesion at any point and we were predictable af with the things we did do. Kick to pocket, long down the line. Anything beyond that chaos.

It was a mess and it has left me feeing like in a fortnight we’ve undone the small gains we had made.
