I have very little confidence I will see another flag and I am 42. It’s not even the clubs fault. Small club little money worked ok in the semi professional 90s. Money talks now and unless you are winning in every single category you are no chance. We can’t even win 4 games a year let alone 4 finals.

Bug it's not like we are pumping games into the kids. Our 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th pick in the draft last year and our first from a few yrs back didn't get a game yesterday whilst being fit. Yet we persist with Shiels, Tucker (was ok), McDonald and Co. I could cop a result like today if more of the younger crop are getting exposure but I don't think we are.

good point and it reminds me that regardless of how bad today was the real test of where we are at as a club starts round 1 next season. All those picks plus our better players who were on the park will have a full uninterrupted preseason under their belts and have the game plan down pat. How long has it been since we have had an uninterrupted preseason? Well see up to 10 players go from this list and if we can trade in 2-3 players with the experience and skills that suit our profile, take 4-5 from the draft then I reckon we will be a much better team next year. Clarko and list management have to be brutal though, this is where expectations and standards need to be set, put a line through Luke (past it) and Jy (too injured) straight away and go from there.

And amongst plenty of other poor decisions Clarko has to wear this.

Every supporter knew it was ridiculous to have someone like LMac as captain again - yet Clarko absolved himself from responsibility to make this call and left it to the players. This decision more than anything has hamstrung us this year and must be gotten right next season.

Take the Geelong game out as that scoreline as we were super competitive and in winnable positions, today's and Swannies game are the only two that we were comprehensively beaten/mulled if you want.

Its not just that. The slow it down stuff that people reckon our leaders don't do happens every week. Its why we revert to long down the line. Because they slow it down to get control of the game but then don't run to make leads and open up easy uncontested kicks. The opposition copy Clarko's Cluster^ from a decade ago and we on't trust ourselves to make those kicks.

Its not that they don't try, more they don't know how to break that cluster. It doesn't help that we get no support from the umpirees/ Players get blocked and held and puched out of the way and rarely get protected by the umps. But even when we kick it long and create contests the opposition are given latitude we don't get to drop the ball, get tackled after spending more time with it than Jy did when Mckercher sold him into trouble.

The long down the line and contest to win the ball only doesn't work cos the rules are applied differently to both sides. If they were we get more of those frees and get the chance to lock the ball in our forward line. It wouldn't have won us the game today but we'd have been about 8 goals closer.

Someone was paying out McKercher for taking too many kick, run and kick moves and calling him a seagull earlier but he's often the only one trying to generate movement. Its like everyone else stands still looking at him thinking "Wow! What's he doing?" Atley had the same problem.
