No we didn't.
Richmond brought up his name, we said no but they talked to his manager, who then talked to Josh himself.
At no point did we talk to Josh about trading to Richmond.
Not saying he's lying but you can't really believe anything.
Selwood was on the news saying he wasn't going anywhere a few nights ago and everyone was saying journos etc were lying.
So much bullshit flying around ATM can't believe 100% what anyone says. Even Wells.

The worst part of this deal was if we held out for a first round as we should have wouldnt need to trade in an extra first in the next two years which we now need to.

Stop rolling over stephen.

Dunno if it's that weak a draft but I would've way preferred Deledio than 24.
x100 since we're going all out for a flag.

Deledios dodgy achilles is not worth hmac mk2 and 24 was better than him but caddy is better than 24.

So richmond made out like bandits, gws got a bad deal and we got a really bad deal.

Now all we need is a Chris Scott press conference where he tells the world they don't know anything about football and our best is good enough. This guy has started believing his own bullshit unfortunately. I told everyone we would get reemed by the Swans and I heard the usual 'spin' about our best being good enough even though we were clearly average the whole year. People must judge this team on how we play, not just if we won by a few goals in the last minute after playing like complete shit for 3/4 of the game. This team is average and our drafting/development of players in the past 5 years has been shit. No players have turned out better than originally expected or surprised us. Our only A grade talent is Selwood and a traded in Dangerfield.
Yep. He just says the word "internally" and makes it look like just he is smart and everyone else is incredibly dumb despite what it clearly looks like.
He has got away with this for so long. Gotta admit he's preety good at it though.

Recruiting manager Stephen Wells spoke before departing the trade talks at Etihad Stadium.

"We were disappointed to part ways with Josh. He's a very good young player.

"He was requesting a trade to go to the Tigers and in the end we were able to do a deal that improved our position in the draft significantly, so we wish Josh all the best.

"The Tigers convinced him that he was going to get some tremendous opportunities there and we thought he had some great opportunities with us as well, and I think Josh did too, but in the end (decided to go)."

They way he is talking it is as Caddy was uncontracted. I look at what Carlton did re Gibbs and it has me thinking what if.

Baffling.

You seem preety sure how chronic he's injuries are.
Dunno if we're going flag or nothing I'd have preferred to have him more than a player that's going to take a few years to come on.
Especially since we're losing Caddy as well.

I'm amazed some fans cant see the strategy clearly was to win a flag in the next 2 years....trading for a draft pick instead of Deledio is unbelieveably dumb

The club must have the view that Menegola and Scooter will provide better service in the middle, and that Cockatoo and Lang may step up and pass Caddy. I'm still scratching my head over this trade, I'd say salary space may have been required, but what do we do, just move on, hope we draft well with pick 24.

Wells has lost the plot, if Caddy was contracted they simply tell him to continue his holiday and see you first week of November. They knock back the Deledio offer then accept this hogwash of a deal? It's plainly obvious the real brains behind Geelong was Neil Balme!
What a botched up trade period this was for Geelong.

You reckon they know what their doing?
Going after Deledio and playing games when we couldn't afford him.
Blew out the salary cap so much we had to offload a best 22 player for *** all.
2 year contract for Mackie, trigger clause for Jimmy when they didn't want him to play on and now have to pay him $ for not playing.
Go back a few years, Hawkins apparently not injured until the first final, Chapman starting as sub, Varcoe playing despite being the most out form player I've ever seen.
"Mission accomplished" 2014 then straight sets.
"We're ready" 2016 then game over in 20 mins.
I think even those with a very healthy dose of blind faith would have to admit there's been some bizarre shit.
Holy crap, do you have a Tivo that automatically deletes any positive coverage of Geelong? You still have to go back 6 or 7 years to build your argument of 9 points, pretty much all of which are evidence free personal gripes. I won't admit anything based on this.

Our off season last year implied we were going flag or bust in 2016, we came up short and now we've had a putrid trade period this year.

Don't expect much in 2017, if Danger wood fire we may make top 4 again, they struggle or get injured and we won't make the top 8.

Caddy hasn't shown he has the motor to play midfield in the AFL. Have watched him closely at times and the guy blows up very very quickly. More of a power athlete I think. Also has had a problem with remaining on the park, with a lot of niggles and soft tissue injuries interrupting his pre-seasons and seasons. 16(24)-14(24)-19(22)-16(24) games over the past 4 years with all of those games lost to injury. Also besides one epic final, hasn't done much in the rest.

With Menegola coming on this year as a tough, hard body, big bodied mid (with elite endurance) and Scooter back next year, I think we decided we had enough of his type and wanted back into the draft.

Plus the idea that we can free up a bit of cap space - he wouldn't be on heaps, but is coming into his prime years, so would be $300-400 range one would think - he was the casualty.

I like the guy and didn't want to trade him but I think we see enough progress in our midfield group - Scooter, Menegola, Cockatoo and Murdoch - that he was the odd man out. Duncan didn't have a good year this year, neither did Motlop. Menegola will be much better with this experience and looks like he could be a great find - I know there are questions on his skills, but he looked good in the games he played, obviously not highly skilled, but made good decisions and stayed in his limits - and there is natural progression in those other lads. Scooter could be really really handy if he gets back.

Get a couple of kids in the draft. Free up some space for next year and at the end of this year, go after a couple of blokes in FA to fill what holes we find.

How can they make so many ****ing stupid decisions. It's baffling.

We knew who all our young players were a year ago.

And look now, all our young players are not who we had a year ago. Either you are using a circular argument, or you are not getting it across well enough for me to understand your point. The club would have signed up all our young players at the start of the year if what you suggest were true.

He probably believes this too.

Well we did improve our draft position.

But that isn't the measure of whether the trade was any good, is it? The question is, did we receive commensurate value in return for the loss of a contracted Caddy, and I think just about everyone would agree that we did not. Given Geelong's position, where they've seemingly put everything into winning a flag soon, trading out a best 22 player who has been developing in the side for years, has accrued nearly 100 games and is entering his prime period as a player, for pick 24 is just nonsensical.

I would say I'm mostly positive,at least 50/50.
Just not afraid to call it as I see it, even if the way I see it is wrong.(it is an opinion site after all)
I just see some really weird shit.

Yeah, thats fine, but your comment was mostly negative, at least 100/0. Just wondered if you can remember anything the club admin has done right in the same time span?

Of course I can. After a good win do I have to post all the negative things I can think of.
This is on this years trade week thread which IMO is kind of on the negative side.
