This came through from Tom Morris yesterday. Pies to play GWS (again) in Opening Round in 2025.

I would have preferred to play one of the grand finalists, given they'd have less rest, but I'm okay with GWS as well (I can't remember how deep they went in the finals).

Perryman to shut down Greene.

They got knocked out by Lions in the semi final.

Do you think the AFL are paying too much attention to gws social media and have been fooled into considering us rivals?

The afl keeps chipping away at us

Gather round home game in Adelaide diminishes advantage against swans
Opening round away again to play contender
Have to be cherry ripe this year first up
The AFL aren't 'chipping away at us' (ridiculous comment), but both of those scheduled games does work against us.

Unfortunately, the notion of Gather Round means that all non-Adelaide teams play 'away', and therefore those that are scheduled as the home side are giving up home ground advantage. It is annoying, but I'd expect it evens out over time (as this concept is here to stay).

With Opening Round, we are playing that because we are a big team, not because the AFL hates us, but we do really need to win that game. Which is why not having Houston is going to be tough to cover. We just need to hope that they are underdone due to their finals push last year, but I doubt teams ever really get to round one and not in shape

It’s ridiculous according to you… “ chip away means to gradually reduce benefit or weaken our draw hand “.. They mightn’t hate us but they don’t do us any favours over the years with fixturing..even the number of 5-6 day breaks add ons

I will also go with ridiculous. Our draw is the envy of other clubs - we get the most "blockbusters" of any team in the comp - yes our crowds justify us getting them, but the fact remains we get the best H&A games of the year.

And, again because we currently deserve it, we get plenty of Friday nights as well.

If the AFL was of the mind to manufacture results to help the competition(ie. to make more dough), close to their number 1 preference(behind boosting the expansion clubs) would be Collingwood always in contention.

Okay, i apologise - I was probably too hot on that. I was calling it ridiculous when I thought you were suggesting that they deliberately try to do things to the detriment of Collingwood (which is a very common perception by many members of this forum unfortunately).

If you were in fact suggesting that some of the things in their plans have inadvertently been to our disadvantage (even though they are to their own advantage) then I agree. But I just hate the narrative that some on here spew that the AFL is against us and is always looking to change the rules just to screw us over and/or stop our players from coming 1, 2, 3 in the Brownlow medal every year, etc.

Given we've played Sydney is Sydney every year bar one since 2002 (one being 2020), I'll happily cop them in Adelaide, where they lost by 112 in their last outing.

Of course there's still a chance we'll double up and it'll be in Sydney. That'd be quite humorous

But everyone will tell us we have such a home ground advantage.

The AFL are doing their best to find a team that we cannot beat at Adelaide oval. If Sydney beat us,you can lock that in for the future. Plus it saved Longmire from being booed at the Mcg. AFL did very well.

Opening round failed last year and will do so again.

Hope they kill it off quickly.
How did it fail? Games were sold out everywhere, afl got what it wanted.
I reckon it's here to stay if people keep turning up.

The vibe was good, I enjoyed it.

Got it, so we've only got a three week head start on them.

And we don't have Houston for that first game, do we?
We’ll put them to the sword regardless.
