Player Watch Pick #12 (2018) - Zak Butters

It doesn't matter if the club lied about his conditions and it prevented Hawthorn and Sydney finding out.

It is an issue if they lied to him.

I would also suggest it's an issue for both betting companies and punters who are waging millions on these games. Can't be hiding injuries to this extent.

Perils on sport betting, no sympathy

Sam Edmund on SEN said that Butters has met with Geelong twice this year and the dogs once this year, he plans to go home at the end of 2026 as a free agent for ‘family reasons’.

So he either signs an extension during next season or is traded out for a couple of top 10 picks.

Punters should develop brains and watch then imo. They knew he had sore ribs.

Contacts can mean very little these days. Our players know that if they ask for a trade, we'll accommodate them as long as we receive fair compensation.

He should extend next year for an extra couple of years. The scrutiny will immediately disappear, and if he does decide to ask for a trade at the end of 2026, we'll demand extra for a contracted player..

**** those campaigners!

You're missing the point completely.

The AFL has massive multi-million dollar deals with betting agencies. If they are losing money because of integrity issues with respect to players not being reported on injury lists and the like, that has financial ramifications for the league down the line.

I know there's noise around Bergman and Butters leaving in 2025 and 2026 respectively. But thats exactly why I would put a contract in front of them now and gauge their interest in re-signing

Erm no he didn't. Sam Edmund read out a random text on SEN that someone had sent in. Are we now quoting text messages from anon sources?

Butters having an injury that is kept secret is not going to be a negative for betting companies.

Its going to be something in there favour over punters that are betting on Butters to get x or more possessions etc.

It’s amazing to see how easily misinformation can be spread. The trade bell has a segment where they read out texts with HUGE grains of salt and often make believe fantasy scenarios.

Wasn't there one from Andy Maher about JUH for Butters? Like there's these stupid ones that gets thrown up all the time. It's people who want to make their fantasies come true

not good that we've already decided internally that of the big 3 he'll be the one to go, just because they can easily pretend it's go home/family reasons
