Player Watch Pick #14 (2019) - Miles Bergman

Cal Twomey said this morning thats he's not heard anything about Miles Bergmann leaving Port and expects him to be with us next season.

Rucci then tried to backflip out of his original report that he expected Bergmann to leave.

At least Kane Cornes admits when he gets something wrong. Rucci never does.

Not a comment on Miles specifically. We're told the playing group has such strong bond to each other, the coach, the club and then the club propaganda mouthpiece starts pushing he's keen to get out.

My mail on Bergman has changed dramatically in the past few weeks from yes he’s definitely going home and talking to several clubs to he’s thinking of buying a house in Adelaide.
There is a house at Henley Beach for sale now that Clarko is at Norf.

This is good news... 🙂🤞 I think he will be an absolute star. Rozee Bergman butters duursma. We have hope for the future.

Miles will be a jet. Can see him as an important midfield cog.

But was his dad nodding or shaking his head? I think it's the only way we can determine what's going on.

Is this simply because he’s getting a game now?

The Oracle of Adjustments (Rucci) seems to have changed his stance on Miles since the 5th (Rooch on Miles Bergman's potential departure from Port Adelaide (05.08.22)) when he beleived Miles was leaving.

Tonight his comment were along the lines of people mis-understanding him and he ws just saying there was interest ...... the link above distictly has Michaelangelo saying he believes Miles wouldn't be at Port next year.

He's a weak little worm.

Never ever is willing to be held to his words

I can't stand him. Always got an alterior motive, always sneaky, is blatantly hypocritical and never admits he got something wrong...just backflips and gaslights instead.

He tried to back out of it yesterday by comparing 1 year remaining on bergmanns contract with Port with say a 3 year offer from a Vic club, which would be hard for bergs not accept.

How stupid does he think supporters are? He never broadcasts interest from interstate clubs for players like butters, rozee, georgiadis etc and he especially doesn't passively encourage them to accept those longer term offers whilst contracted to Port. He did for Bergs though.

My view is the club was/is shopping bergmann in the market to see what they can get in return. Rucci would never passively encourage bergmann to explore all offers otherwise.

Why would they shop a guy around who has a year left on his contract, who plays in a position that we are now 1 person lighter on, at a time where he value is the lowest due to his interrupted year?

Because its rumoured we're apparently going hard in the trade period and nothing's for nothing.

If the rumours are, got to pay for these supposed new recruits somehow.

Why else would rucci be using his show to advertise bergmann? From day 1 of the season he's been pushing Amon out too, which is clearly a club directive.

I think it's a few things:

1. The retirements of Motlop and Gray have opened up room in the salary cap that the club wouldn't have budgeted for. Gray would have been given a new one year deal if he wanted to play on, no questions asked, while Motlop would have been considered better depth in a thankless role than some kid and probably offered the base contract of $350k. You're looking at at least $700-$800k freed up that can now be offered to guys like Bergman and Georgiades.

2. The closer the season got to the end, the more definite it was that Amon was going to explore FA options. You could say that it was obvious halfway through the year, but again, list management would have to plan around the idea that Amon was going to stay while a contract was in front of him (and for the right price, you would keep Amon 10 times out of 10). As soon as Amon exercised his rights to FA, the club would have said in Bergman's exit meeting that Amon's spot on the wing is his (with Duursma on the other side) as long as he commits to the club with a new contract (that probably has another $100k on it thanks to point 1).

3. Lastly, and I know no one wants to hear this, but stability in knowing who is going to coach you next season (and possibly into the future) matters for players. Mainly because a new coach could come in and not like the attributes you bring to the table.
