Player Watch Pick #23 (2019) - Dylan Williams

Lol who on earth would have thought there would be a world where you would prefer to keep williams than georgiadis if there had to be a choice between them.

Even entertaining that would have been crazy.

I am actually prepared for him to go elsewhere if the price isn’t right. Georgiadis has dropped in the pecking order imo. Not sure after his knee that he will be able to return to the same game style he had before the ACL, so it is very risky to throw huge money at him.
Rocci’s article sounded like a buttering up for him to leave.

I don’t mind him leaving, he’s got skills but zero brain, gutted we get nothing for him though.

Think we have already made the call on Mitch's contract and it is what it is there's nothing that effects Dylan there at all.

Length of contact might be an issue. Can see the club putting 2 years out there rather than 3 as insurance he remains this year's Dylan rather than the player he was.

I don't see clubs falling over themselves to throw throw stupid deals at him on the back of one good season with his previous history.

I disagree. With Dixon on one leg, Mitch becomes more important to our future than ever. Lord is not at the level yet where you can safely say he replaces Mitch and could just as easily have a down year next year.

I'd be more keen on Mitch if his kicking hadn't devolved below John Butcher levels. If he was more than 15m out it was at the point he's basically no hope. You could see the body language that he didn't want to have the shot and started attempting dodgy passes instead.

Can that be fixed? Yeah, probably. But it's a big risk. Some players kicking never comes good. If his set shots are less than 50% then his value is very low.

Couple of years time we will have Lou Montgomery coming through. Think him and Dylan working together in the back 6 with a couple of decent talls will be as about as good as it gets. Think Dylan and Lou are very similar.

If we can't fix the kicking of a guy that came to the club with a great leg, then that's on us.
You back yourself to fix it.

And I've said it before - Butcher is no comparison. Butcher could NEVER kick.
Lacking confidence (Georgiades) is not the same thing as lacking skill (Butcher)

Hopefully not as slow. I'm not sure how many you could carry at Dyls pace no matter how good every other aspect is..

There was one kick in particular where in the first quarter I think it was, he kicked a 45m pinpoint pass through the traffic laden centre that from memory resulted in a shot at goal. Kicks like that from half back can break open play and are worth there weight in gold.

Him and Kane Farrell are such Hawthorn threepeat type footballers.

A delisted player with a game to his name that is now a rookie and has played about 10 games. He has been solid no doubt but I would be surprised if there was much interest out there in him, outside of getting him on a low contract as a FA, in which case, why not stay and have that?
You aren't getting much love, so I'll back you up.

I don't think he is a risk at all. I'd be willing to nearly put my house on him staying. Just a matter of time with his signature.

I also would doubt anyone else has any interest in Williams. Still athletically looks poor, hasn't been fully tested defensively but has an outstanding kick and good mark. I don't think many other teams would be thinking, "yep he's definitely what we want". Don't get me wrong, he's doing a great job, but his potential is far from clear, his work ethic still unclear, he's one injury away from returning through the SANFL and maybe struggling to get back in with Burgoyne & Jones there. It's one thing seeing him fit into a successful teams mix and complement their style, and another to come into another team under more pressure and be required to perform other elements of that half back role in a far different environment and system.

Love what Williams is doing, but I'm very comfortable with the conflicting opinion, that I would be incredibly shocked if he had any other team seriously interested.

Yup spot on.

I wanted us to pick him in the draft. I was disappointed he didn’t come on previously. I’ve been impressed and stoked with his form this year. But he has a lot left to work on.

And think we are going over the top for a guy who really hasn’t shown much yet. Was delisted and rookied. Will probably have around 20 games under his belt by seasons end. If port offered such a player a big offer or even looked at picking them up, we would be livid!

Let’s say we land Sav/McKay or Kyle Marshall becomes a star backman, McKenzie comes out. Suddenly you have Houston, Farrell, Jones, Burgoyne, Bergman, Burton and McKenzie all competing with Williams for those third tall and half back spots. Maybe Sinn too. Definitely no guarantee he is best 22.

Very good again. Always seems to find time to get a long kick away under pressure. Great composure.

Reminds me of another fine Port Adelaide hbf #23, Tony Giles.
