I wouldn't be so sure, this has a distinct 2015 feel about it. Wouldn't be surprised if we finish 10th again, as the desire, the skill, the cohesopm and the injury luck just doesn't seem to be there this year.

You guys are on the other hand, killing it and well deserved winners tonight. Down to you, Melb and Pies for mine now for the flag.
Through the years, I’ve learnt one thing. Never write off Geelong. No matter what. If there’s a chance they’ll take it.

And trust me, I’ve wanted nothing more than to see you fall since 2007. But respect where it’s due.

You will make the 8 this year. Feel free to remind me in September if I’m wrong.

Just watched the press conference. Wasn’t going to as I didn’t want to get “managed”

But this was a different one. He looked as grumpy as I feel. Arms crossed. Trying hard not to react.

He still tried to trot out the lines of positivity but wasn’t his normal self…he is worried (or just angry).

He quoted that we had only 24 inside 50s in the last 3 qtrs…that does give the forwards a bit of an alibi

Cats seriously need a Quality Ruckman
It has been our Achilles heel for too long
A Ruckman that will carry the midfield
Where is Stanley in his recovery?
Where is Shannon Neale this year?
Where is Toby Conway this year?
Why are all Cats ruckmen injured?
Are Cats still chasing Sean Darcy : Freo?
Why didn't Cats go hard for Grundy?
Why has every ruckman drafted failed?
Cats draft best available, don't rate ruckmen?
How can12 drafts since Ottens all miss?
Think Scott learned, need for a ruckman?

I swear the clearances also were about 20 apiece. Final count 45-27 or something. It was a massacre from about 5 mins to go in the 2nd through to the final siren.

Re-did ladder predictor. I didn’t pick Cats against Port - or Melbourne next week anyway - so I still have us making it…although 4 teams on the same points it will come down to % which then comes down to WC and North games!!

I have us losing to Melbourne next week but then winning every home game from there (including against WB, Freo and Port) and also better other around us on the ladder…

If we lose one of those games or to St Kilda at marvel then we miss. Of course if we pinch one at the Gabba we build a buffer.

To me this means the club does nothing radical for the next month even if we lose next week (the following three are sure wins IMO including against North). So we will end round 18 at 9 wins and 8 losses…still very much in the hunt for the 8 with 6 games to go of which 3 are at home.

Although the last 6 rounds are against teams that I have ALL making the top 8. Of course if we go on that run and win them all then we all of a sudden we might be favourites to win from 6th!

Who really knows…but any talk of “playing the kids etc” and looking to 2024 simply won’t happen I don’t think unless we have a shock loss to sydney and essendon (and therefore are 7 and 10 after round 18. Even then we can win last 6…)

The way the draw is working I reckon it will be very late in season before the maths might run out. On my calcs the earliest we “can’t make it” will be round 21 (if by then we have lost 3 in a row to have 11 losses…). Realistically we will be right up in it until round 22 or even 24…

Hope still exists

He sounded frustrated. He knows our best is very good. And he saw glimpses of it again in the first quarter. But then Danger and Bruhn cop injuries again and we drop another game meaning our season is hanging by a thread.

I think until now he was convinced it would all come together. Now he's hoping but knows it's unlikely.

Nasty error ridden loss only for what could have been, considering the definite underdogs jumped them early.
I'm not sure the loss itself was catastrophic in terms of fight, considering we were only 12 points behind at the start of last Q.
Ran rings around us, we look really slow to react. Hopefully a few will be better for the run, and a good look at the video.
Once again injury raised it's nasty head, and kudos to Dangerfield sticking it out given the pain of broken ribs.

They are in the cabbage field, where the big guys grow.
We're busy looking under lettuces.

You can say what you like about Jack Flash - but the facts of the matter are - before the 2022 season started -on the main board - there was a thread title - who will win the 2022 Premiership

And there were 100s of posts - and they reviewed them at the end of the season - and he was the only single poster who said Geelong would win the 2022 Premiership - thats fact

And he gave logical reasons to - like Melb will lose hunger - does that sound a little bit relevant re Geel - right at this point in time
Everyone here has made one great call over the journey. If you throw enough darts, you'll get one right eventually.

To be totally honest I judge a lot of posters here by how they hold their emotions. I understand that footy can bring out the best and worst in people...but seriously, some of the stuff said on here even just this year is comical.

Depending on how the week goes, you'll see something like this:

Good week: "Holmes, Bruhn, Knevitt and Bowes look the goods, Clark, Willis and Conway developing in the VFL....I think our midfield is set for 10 years"

Bad week: "We're over the hill and the kids aren't showing enough. I think it's time that we hit the draft hard and trade anyone with currency"

Good week: "The Cats are back! and with our youngsters I reckon we can compete for flags for years to come! Parish and TDK would be nuts not to come here, who wouldn't?"

Bad week: "It's time to tear it all down. We've had a good run but trading in players won't move the needle. It's time for a couple years down the bottom"

See what I mean?

What I'm trying to say is the truth is somewhere between the middle of these statements...but on here we seem to go all in, or not at all.

Footy's not perfect. Even a club as successful as ours only has 10 flags in 160 odd years. If you judge seasons so frenetically you're going to end up terribly disappointed far more often than not.

If we could just take the good (and there's been a hell of a lot of good over the years) with the bad, we'd all get along much better in here.

This year is one of those years where just too much is going wrong. Its good to get games into the kids and develop them while there are big names to teach them the way, but you can't keep getting hammered with injuries like we have and expect to put together a good season.

Best case scenario is now to creep into finals and maybe win one to give experience to guys like Henry, Bruhn etc. But honestly besides another mid 20s midfielder we should be eying off a new physio for next season. Its been downhill since Taylor left.

Teams with low injuries build cohesion and win flags. Dees in 2021, us last year, Pies or Port this year.

Sadly we will be making up the numbers from here on.

I try not to react to what goes on inside the club, as so much happens without our knowledge that it's ultimately redundant.

But I will say, he has been different in the last couple weeks. I think like many here (including myself) Scott assumed that it would just 'click' eventually, and it hasn't.

It would be frustrating for him. He knows our best is good enough but we see it in such scarcity that it hasn't amounted to anything this year.

I want to preface this by saying I by no means want him out, nor have I heard anything..but I do expect Cook and Carlton to throw the chequebook at him this off-season.

It'll be interesting to see, as it all depends on how he views our list. Ala Dimma, if he thinks there's another flag around the corner then he'll stay on...but also like Dimma, if he sees a changing of the guard taking place, it could sway his decision making.
