Is it the talent they draft or is it the development blackhole that is the GC? Hard to say. I think it's just the combination of everything.

They are going to be staring at an exodus real soon. Some good talent has given them plenty of time to come good. They might shuffle off now it looks like there is just more pain coming, even for less money.

Rankine and Luko odds on to leave if it continues. Both may go to the Crows if they get some good draft capital. If I was the Crows I'd be preparing for that.

Their initial crop including free agents was terrible compared to the Giants, and having an unproven coach in Guy McKenna to ride solo versus the hyper-experienced promo/inspo/premiership duo of Sheedy and Choco was like chalk and cheese.

Gary Ablett aside, Campbell Brown, Jarrod Harbrow, Nathan Bock, Jarred Brennan, Josh Fraser, Michael Rischitelli and Nathan Krakouer versus Phil Davis, Callan Ward, Luke Power and Tom Scully, plus going balls deep on Adam Treloar, Dylan Shiel, Toby Greene, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Devon Smith, Stephen Coniglio and Dom Tyson.

Makes you wonder how things had planned out if they came in the year after and vice-versa.

Preventing North from merging with Fitzroy is arguably the #1 strategic error the league made in the AFL era.

You instantly create a medium-sized club with 40000-45000 members, leaving Brisbane to always be Brisbane with the entire Queensland catchment to nurture until the Suns come along, give or take 5,000 members.

The Kangaroys

The rest of the AFL: “Nah, we’re worried we’re going to create a superteam”

Also the rest of the AFL: “yeah, you totally can add the best Fitzroy players and Jonathan Brown’s father-son rights to Jason Akermanis, Michael Voss, Justin Leppitsch and Alastair Lynch!”

The mergers & culls needed in Melbourne that could only have happened in the 90's.. such a missed opportunity.

*The Bears was a great nick man.
