We've usually been around mid table with a minimal differential either way (tautology?), but we've slipped well into the bottom half. Mustn't grumble though, eh - the AFL might not give us any favours otherwise...

If you could bottle whatever it is that era after era after era of Bulldogs teams do that results in them being a gigantic outlier at home, away and finals, you’d be a bazillionaire.

western bravedogs 324 frees against is kind of undefendable.

the nearest number in either for/against is melbourne's 359. it's a massive statistical deviation. are we meant to believe they're far more disciplined than any other side???

What other possible explanation could there be? ;)

From the Age -

The camp ended up appropriating a First Nations peoples’ ritual of a ‘talking stick’ and attempting to apply it to all of us, even the non-Indigenous players and coaches.

“In my view, the talking stick was used incorrectly, and I was not aware that any Elder had given permission for it to be used either.

“There was all sorts of weird s**t that was disrespectful to many cultures, but particularly and extremely disrespectful to my culture,” Betts writes in the book.

Former AFL champion Eddie Betts has revealed for the first time the trauma he felt after a “weird” and “completely disrespectful” leadership training camp he attended as an Adelaide Crows player in the 2018 pre-season.

In his autobiography, The Boy from Boomerang Crescent, to be released on Wednesday, the three-time All-Australian player says the secretive four-day camp held on the Gold Coast, run by a group he has chosen not to name, left him feeling “like a piece of me was brainwashed”.

In the book, Betts writes that confidential information he had given in a private counselling session on the camp had been misused, and that the camp co-opted sensitive Aboriginal cultural rituals that offended him, jeopardised the wellbeing of other, younger Indigenous players within the Crows’ playing squad, and affected his family life. He blames it for a lack of form in 2018 that ultimately prompted him to leave the Crows.

Anyone still backing/excusing/bootlickersplaining for the morons who greenlit this fiasco needs their head read.

I get way too many of them went at Sam Maclure to walk it back, but jesus aitch.

Some of the comments on the Crows board make me sick:

"Eddie comes across as a bit naïve here. Why would you disclose such personal information to some stranger over the phone, especially when you already think something is a bit off about it."

Yeah - Eddie was naive to think that his own club would be professional and respectful in how they treated player information as part of a training exercise he was compelled to participate in by his employer. . Shame on him.

"Eddie, meanwhile, needs to get over it and move on."

Yeah. A training exercise set up by his employer that disrespected him on a personal and cultural level that still troubles him. Stuff like this:

“Things were yelled at me that I had disclosed to the camp’s ‘counsellors’ about my upbringing. All the people present heard these things,” Betts writes. “I was exhausted, drained and distressed about the details being shared. Another camp-dude jumped on my back and started to berate me about my mother, something so deeply personal that I was absolutely shattered to hear it come out of his mouth.”

And Betts was sacked from the Crows leadership group after complaining about what happened at the camp!! But HE needs to move on because the truth of events upsets the Adelaide Football Corporation.

"Who really cares about this anymore?" "Can we now close this thread?"

Funny how everytime a scandal happens at West Lakes this is the response. Not just from the rump of idiot supporters but from their media 'ambassadors' and the club itself. That they are not to blame - it is all a witch hunt. Nothing to see here. Time to move on. Wash Rinse Repeat.

Feck right off.

(Thankfully there are many there calling this out for the disgrace that it is).

I am aware of Aboriginal 'message sticks' but have never heard of Australian Aboriginal people using 'talking sticks'.

Sounds like there is finally confirmation from a player involved regarding all the incidents that were alleged to have occurred at the camp - every last one of the rumours is correct. Shame on the Crows and their media ambassadors for consistently lying/gaslighting about what actually went on at that camp. If they copped it on the chin as a mistake at the time (like it so clearly was), this would not keep coming up in the media for them. Oh well.

Isak Rankine probably cares.

If he was thinking of going there, this was probably not a good week for them.

Betts also confirmed that the Richmond theme song was played repeatedly during a training session.

He said he was at one stage put into a body harness with a rope attached and told to fight his way towards a knife to cut himself free, while camp instructors peppered him with verbal abuse.

“Things were yelled at me that I had disclosed to the camp’s ‘counsellors’ about my upbringing. All the people present heard these things,” he wrote.

“Another camp-dude jumped on my back and started to berate me about my mother, something so deeply personal that I was absolutely shattered to hear it come out of his mouth.”

Betts wrote that, three weeks after confronting the club and telling it he wouldn’t be involved in any further mind-training exercises, he was dropped from the leadership group.
