Pretty sure Ricciuto retired around 2007 and Mcleod and Edwards around 2010 so I don’t think they would have.
Im not saying they did, as that list is comprehensive. They are just my recollections as Mcleod got to 340 games and I thought Edwards finished up earlier than 2010.

Knockout finals work fine for every other sporting league in the world, why wouldn't they work fine for ours?

1st v 8th, 2nd v 7th, 3rd v 6th, 4th v 5th. Losers out, highest ranked winner plays the lowest ranked loser. If the AFL are worried about losing a week of finals for commercial reasons or because they don't want a higher ranked team going out after one bad game, make the first round of games a two-leg series soccer style.

That's not a strength. It's so arbitrary. Why is finishing 1st v 2nd basically the same, but finishing 4th v 5th a massive difference?

The NRL used to have this format. Worked fine until the in the 2000s when 8th beat 1st in two successive years, giving the 8th placed team home finals advantage from then. Following that they adopted the same system the AFL now uses.
The NRL started using it after the AFL. The Camry Crows owe one of their flags to the foibles of the McIntyre Final Eight system.

Got some solid mail the deal is done and has been for a number of weeks.

I’m disappointed as he would be a perfect fit for us

Dillon just trying to generate ratings. Something nearly happened on the weekend but didn't so nothing's changed. But look at me knowing something!

Charlie Cameron played golf with Pyke and its all sweet m8

What sort of legacy does Gilligan want - the bloke who got the players another fat pay rise, or the bloke who stole free footy?

Nope. I would rather go with the perennial contender.

The question is on the lesser of two evils: a choker or a lucky bottom-dweller? Glenelg or South Adelaide?

I don’t want to be stuck at the bottom for three decades. Not even for a single Premiership.

I'd say we should have at least 3 flags, 1 missed in the Choco era, 1 in the Hinkley era which would have us on track for the West Coast type flag return having been in the comp for a shorter period & gunning for the fourth. You could easily say Hinkley has missed three chances though.

Since 2000, the Top-3 after the Minor Round have won 21 of 22 AFL flags. It means that a Top-3 finish gives a club 33% chance of a premiership.

According to this metric, then, 4 clubs have overperformed in Finals (HAW, RIC, SYD, BRI); while 5 have underperformed (WLK, GEE, POR, STK, FRE).

The Best (+6)

1. Hawthorn
: 4 flags (expected: 2) +2
2. Richmond
: 3 (1) +2
3. Brisbane
: 3 (2) +1
4. Sydney
: 2 (1) +1

The Worst (-6)

1. West Lakes
: 0 flag (expected: 2) -2
T2. Fremantle
: 0 (1) -1
T2. St Kilda
: 0 (1) -1
4. Port
: 1 (2) -1
5. Geelong
: 3 (4) -1

P.S.: It doesn't matter the position within the Top-3, because each has won 7 flags since 2000:

1st - 2000/04/07/10/13/16/21
2nd - 2001/02/08/09/11/14/18
3rd - 2003/05/12/15/17/19/20
The exception is 2016.

The remaining six flags:

W. Coast: 2
Essendon: 1
Collingwood: 1
Footscray: 1 (2016)
Melbourne: 1

The bloke who poured tens of millions down the drain in gold coast and western Sydney, but steadfastly refused a team to an actual football state with 100+ years of history and a massive contribution to the game.

Smallest club in the league, back to back wooden spoons, constant threat of relocation.

Yet still more attractive than super rich Essendon.

That place must be awful.

Nah there has to be more behind the scenes. As i said in post above, the afl has obviously made guarantees to clarko.
I suspect a Tasmanian coup too.

Don't be fooled into thinking Clarkson was only here on a personal note. Remember what he did to our club last time.

A number of times.

Though unless he's taking Butters or Rozee there's not that much he can do to us atm.

Everyone else is tradeable for a price.
