His statement:

I think he feels a bit persecuted due to his religious beliefs. Would not be surprised if he joins the Libs eventually.

However, today it became clear to me that my personal Christian faith is not tolerated or permitted in the public square, at least by some and perhaps by many. I was being required to compromise beyond a level that my conscience allowed. People should be able to hold different views on complex personal and moral matters, and be able to live and work together, even with those differences, and always with respect. Behaviour is the key. This is all an important part of a tolerant and diverse society.

“Let me be clear - I love all people, and have always promoted and lived an inclusive, diverse, respectful and supportive workplace - where people are welcomed regardless of their culture, religious beliefs, and sexual orientation. I believe my record over a long period of time testifies to this.
Despite my own leadership record, within hours of my appointment being announced, the media and leaders of our community had spoken. They made it clear that my Christian faith and my association with a Church are unacceptable in our culture if you wish to hold a leadership position in society.

Won't somebody please think of the extremely rich, privileged white Christian boomers! The poor dears.

It is plainly ridiculous to say you don't discriminate on religion in a statement explaining why you've parted with your one day CEO due to his religious beliefs. They should have left that bit out of their statement.

Not really.

You can be a Christian, just a regular ol Christian, but part of a church that isn't homophobic, isn't anti abortion etc. He wouldn't have been singled out of that was the case.

He was removed because his "religious beliefs" were being the head of a church pushing homophobia and an anti abortion agenda.

It's nitpicky. You can't hide behind "religious beliefs" if say, you want homosexuals to go to hell.

Can I just say thankyou Essendon. Haven't lol'd that hard at bigfooty since Jake Lever backed his Camry up to a dumpster.

I’m blaming the recent % rate hike on the AFL and Gillion.
Two years of a major pandemic and they waste tax payers money on players wife’s and their accommodations to suit the Victorian government shitshow.

Yet Bachar Houli and his faith are widely celebrated and promoted by the AFL. It's a funny old world.

It’s incredible that this point has even has to be made.

“I’m a Christian.” Yep, no worries. Welcome on board.

“I’m a Christian, also, I think a certain marginalised group of society should be supermurdered.”

These are not the same thing.

That was a much more succinct way of getting across what I was trying to say, cheers.

I guess they just mean that they'd sack you for those shit views whether it was part of the religion or not.

Yeah....nah....**** off.

... You can be a Christian, just a regular ol Christian, but part of a church that isn't homophobic, isn't anti abortion etc. ....
In his statement he implies he is selective of those parts of the Christian doctrine he believes in;

"Not everyone in the church agrees with those views, but it's very important in a society that those views can be expressed," he said.

Is being a regular Christian like being a little bit pregnant?

Hang on, can they not also address the fact that he resigned in disgrace from the royal Commission into banking? And was personally singled out amongst the CEOs?

I mean, sacking him is the right move for being a homophobic religion nut job POS, but why did they hire him in the first place?

Barham seems utterly incompetent and out of his depth, and he'd be standing down too if he hadn't only been there 5 minutes. Then you have the senile old fool Sheedy, and idiots like Slobbo foaming their supporters into a cult like frenzy. What a mess. Burn the place down and start over
No, just burn it and leave it alone. No need to rebuild it.

Yet he's the Chair of the organisation... Sure mate.

No, it is not important for society that those views can be expressed. We should never tolerate intolerance.

You don't let Nazis express their views. You punch them.

Is that the same as being a regular... Anything? Should all people of any religion, or cultural background a proud person from X country, where X is a shithole failing in human rights and liberty, automatically be considered the same as the most draconian of their ilk?

Someone made the Bacha Houli remark earlier. Well, Papa did. It was a foolish thing as to my knowledge he has no direct link to the kind of ridiculous extremism like the Essendon CEO. Then you post something like this and it's like, well, we should probably cancel him then, hey? Someone get a hold of the media, Houli supports the caliphate.
