Also just prior to Dixon’s 100m penalty, there was another non holding the ball call where I think it was butters pinned one arm of the guy with the ball, then spun him 360 degrees. If that isn’t holding the ball then there has never been one. You can say we were undisciplined if you like but when you get no reward either way how can you not show a bit of frustration?

I have no idea what Dixon’s second 50 was for, but for it to be a 50m penalty for saying “are you serious” to the umpire like the first one is incredibly soft. Especially when the initial free kick was dubious at best, wrong at worst.
He pointed right in the umpires face and went off at him.

The 2nd one was definitely there.

It shows what a pissweak monkey league the afl is when you get a 50 for saying “are you serious”
Umpires are largely protected softcocks and beyond incompetent.
They are the rules committee have single handedly made the game borderline unwatchable
A number of times I saw Brisbane players arguing with the umpire after free kicks against them in the second half - with impunity! Charlies initial dissent was no worse. His second one was deserved.

The free-kick was silly though, it just wasnt there. Charlies arm was across Rich's upper arm, and to make it worse, the umpire is behind Charlie and is totally blind. It should have been play on. Young umpire just wanting to impose himself.

On a different matter, I decided to rewatch the 2nd quarter, and I was surprised by my different take on it a second time. Watching it again, we didnt play all that badly. A few of their goals were rally preventable, and against the run of play, and we missed at least 5 easy, or gettable goals. While they outscored us, it was largely due to us allowing Hinkleyball to creep back in.

It is pissweak but we know they give 50 for it, it's another reason why players should be coached not to interact at all with umpires.

Play to the whistle beyond that barely acknowledge their existence, umpires have been given the leeway to become hyper-sensitive & self-important so players just need to shut up it's not that hard.

That guy has no idea. It's his opinion. He is a fraud.
Yeah, he's built a following convincing people that his opinion is as perfect as can be on the AFL rules as an umpire himself.

In reality, he's just posting whatever he thinks will give him the most views. Going against a popular narrative is the best way to do that.

Can't agree with this. Rich had the ball (he was running with it), was tackled, and then handballed it away, which is why you could argue that it shouldn't have been a free kick to Dixon because he got an effective disposal away - though because there was literally no Brisbane player around to receive the handball you could argue that it should have been holding the ball anyway. The umpire called it for being too high when it wasn't - Dixon's tackle was below Rich's shoulder.

That being said - Dixon carrying on about it and managing to lose 100m of field position to give up a goal is exactly what Hinkley and Wines are meaning when they say that the players need to be humble. Humility just means not putting yourself above the team. Yeah, Charlie was frustrated and rightly so, but the way you deal with it is by channeling that aggression into making sure you perform better.
Agree.
And in fact Charlie did channel his aggression into the ball, and took several contested marks in the game after that (but couldn't kick straight!).

the NBA has gone mental with its officiating too, i think these leagues get a kick out of manufacturing discourse instead of just letting us talk about match ups, goals, marks, dunks, normal sports stuff. every week it has to be "should he have been ejected? how many weeks should he have got? should we be allowed to do this?" it's interminable

It’s from 2021, but it’s pinned:

I’ve already said that free count is BS. However, AFL umpiring is BS. So, the 50/50 expectation has its grounds…

I already debunked the “there’s no rule frees have to be even” bullshit by showing that large free discrepancies are rare, and large free discrepancies at your home ground are rarer than rare, and large free discrepancies at home when you’re winning easily don’t exist.

So yeah, there is a rule frees have to be even, the rule of averages

Did the same and have to agree
Not as bad as first view

and regardless of what the score at the end was, Brisbane are a good side. They wont stay down for a whole game and have players that can get them back into the game by themselves.
Its a credit to our lads we didnt let them run over the top of us or werent able to wrestle back momentum that we have seen in years gone by.

21-4 frees at halftime and umpired well. I can guarantee if we were 21-4 frees up at halftime at Adelaide Oval the AFL would launch an enquiry and we may never get another free kick again.

Lol, this.

When Port is on the end of an eyewatering FK count it’s just one of those things, don’t be a nuffy, counts don’t have to be even!

When Port have a good run once in a blue moon it’s hands down Royal Commission time.

Jasper is delving into his ballbag prematurely!

Jay Schulz is cribbing a metre or two in order to improve his angle!

Robbie Gray [legally] rushed that through! Let’s talk about the incident all week and make the umpires feel bad for [rightly] not handing that game to Richmond!

Matthew Boyd was right to raise things with the umpires at 3QT — it was the first time the Bulldogs weren’t looked after like they were a octogenarian with two colostomy bags!

The Port crowd is so loud the umpires will be extra-susceptible to the ‘noise of affirmation!’

It was pleasing to see the lopsided count challenged at half time by both players and coaches
'bout time we started standing up

Low and behold it even up nicely in the second half

All this crap over AFL media about "banning the bump"

No we don't want to ban the bump, what a load of shit, we want to ban the shirtfront

The bump, correctly used, is a really effective tool for putting your opponent off balance and creating space for yourself

The shirtfront is nothing more than a dirty tactic designed to hurt the oppo player

To me it's simple and obvious

Uhhhh, so LGBT flags etc all fine but israel not?

Without clicking in, could it be because it looks to be home made and the Star Of David is wrongly aligned?

Or have all national flags bar the official Aussie ones been canned due to blanket ‘pls don’t bring a Russian flag for the love of god’ policy?

Collingwood cheer squad regularly has an American flag flying.
