any two of Melb/Syd/Geel is just a dream for the league. in fact the top 8 is basically perfect scenario for them. token Perth team, token QLD team, their initial NSW expansion team, no pesky SA sides, 5 most lucrative Vic teams with the two old darlings on top

Just needed Carlton.

It's tv rights negotiation time.

As such, the GF will be played between Sydney and a Victorian club. Just like it was in 2012 when they negotiated the rights, and 2016 when they negotiated the rights. They do this to maximise viewer numbers and get a better deal.
It didn't work that way. 2012-16 deal was completed in 2011 announced on 27 April.

The 2017-22 6 season deal was signed off in August and announced it on 18th August 2015.

Rupert turned up for this one as News Corp signed the deal this time (their share of Foxtel had increased to 50% after being 25% up to late 2012, now is 65%) and the previous 3 deals it was Foxtel that signed the deal and Foxtel CEO (and Port supporter) Kim Williams rocked up at the presser for the announcement.

The broadcasters want a full seasons warning that they have or don't have the rights.

Packer and co. made a bid on Boxing Day 2000 for 2002-06 deal and in late January 2001, 7 didn't use their first right of refusal to match the bid, and on his deathbed in late December 2005, Packer again gave the nod for their bid and in early January 2006, 7 (in combo with 10) used their first right of refusal card and matched the 9/Foxtel bid value and got the rights for 2007-11.

I remember maybe Lade was interviewed and said Adam Kingsley was the worst dressed player.

That's not right.

Janus is never wrong.

How the hell was Walker selected in the AA squad 😳
Suspended for 6 games by the AFL for the start of the 2022 season (incl pre-season) for racial abuse. And now selected in 2022 All Australian squad.

On performances alone it is a bewildering decision. On character and integrity it is a bloody disgrace. No way Walker deserves to be a member of the All-Australian squad.

The hypocrisy of the AFL continues.

If the Cats are in the GF I won't even watch unless they are well down in the last few minutes of the last quarter. Can't stand them or their coach. I don't mind Collingwood this year except for that DeGoey slimebag. The Lions have Daniher and Zorko, Melbourne have Goodwin and Oliver, Richmond have.....well take your pick.
Go with Sydney there posters are streets above most.

Fair enough - I just find it incredibly suspicious that every time a tv rights deal gets signed, Sydney seems to be in the GF the following year to maximise those viewing numbers.

Sydney in 2014 GF and the numbers that generated would have influenced the negotiations signed in 2015 as they had those and 2012 to influence negotiations.

The fact Sydney are back in the top 4, have gone thru their rebuild, spent 2 years out of the finals and are on the way up again, probably is being stressed as part of the current negotiations.

Wookie put up an article from today's Age that a deal is supposedly close to being signed and it will be 7 and Foxtel again, but less live Free TV games outside of Victoria, ie more home state team games in WA,SA,NSW and Qld will be shown on delayed on 7.

Just on this - if Port hadn’t shat the bed against Adelaide and Hawthorn, we would be in 8th spot instead of the Bulldogs and be flying to Perth for an elimination final, meaning that every state in Australia that has a team would be represented in the first week of finals.

Another thing Hinkley managed to **** up for the AFL.
