It's just not important. The game and club which I once loved is close to over now. It no longer matters.

here is a good example of the bubble. 30 May Roos hits out at Clarko for having to go up to the box because of his swearing. Ross says he should be docked pay for not coaching on the bench. Roos was part of the David Noble team at North.

80’s reserves players would blow up by half time chasing current AFL players around, even ones from North. They were probably tougher but they wouldn’t be able to take advantage of that in today’s game. Delusional comments from him really.

Definitely, and besides, there were a stack of guys back then who hung around for literally 8-10 years despite not being league-standard for the time beyond intangibles such as ‘great club man’ status.

Even into the noughties there were still some quite dreadful dime-a-dozen types who carved out 5-6 year careers despite maybe playing one or two genuinely good games out of 50.

Such guys would be chewed up and spat out inside a couple of seasons these days.

Claiming the vfl as the afl and saying there was more depth because there were only 12 teams is bullshit as well. 90% of the best sa and wa players stayed in their local comp and the top 3 or 4 of both sanf and wafl teams would easily have competed in the vfl. The talent was spread amonst 30 teams not 12

Absolutely the changing nature of the way the game is played makes players look worse than they actually are. Related to that there's probably also a price to pay for the increasing focus on selecting athletes over footballers - ie, you exchange skill level for size and athleticism. Reckon there would be more than a few teenagers with elite ball skills who don't even make rep teams because they're 5 foot 8 and don't fit the athletic profile.

Yep, can't shovel money into Ford, to build cars no one wants, with most wages paid by taxpayers anymore. This is why anyone living in the Seats (state and Federal) encompassing Alberton should be voting Lib, even if they hate them. Until they shift from safe ALP to at least marginal, we'll continue to get piecemeal grants compared to Geelong's. This is where, if those seats were marginal, Port would be at an advantage over the Crows, as they don't have one seat strongly associated with them.

The club didnt get the $$, they get to profit from a state owned stadium charging a low rent or low effective rent, just like WA clubs do, SA clubs do, Qld clubs do, GWS does and Tassie will and teams with secondary market home grounds do.

Geelong will get $15m from the feds like over a dozen clubs have received for their new facilities.
