Structure around the stoppage also, they are so good at winning the contest with flicking the quick handball around to players sitting on the outside and then transitioning that to running chains of handballs.Umpiring aside, which I think was the difference in that result, the things that stood out in the way Collingwood iced that, which we simply cannot replicate:
1. Tall, contested marks all over the ground when the going was tough. The idea that we can play in a tight, physical, contested game and hit Georgiades and Lukosius on the chest all night is fanciful. You must have a ruckman and at least one key forward and one key back who can take huge contested marks especially in games like that.
2. Tackle and chase frenetically. We’re no good at that although there should be nothing stopping us.
3. Walk through and shrug off tackles. Sidebottom and Pendlebury do it for fun. Daicos too.
4. Small players who stand tough under the high ball and have strong hands. Schultz and Elliott were great examples late. Our smaller players just don’t have this in them.
