But look at what the majority alive remember.

Choco 1-1
Stephen 3-1
Jack 10-1
Russell 0-1
That's 14-4

Yep we have lost 3 since Reunification in September 2013 SANFL, but that's the B's playing. How many remember and count our B grade premierships and grand finals. Yep Stephen was affectively coaching the B grade, but there were a lot of players playing who won us all those flags to justify we got into the AFL and could have been playing in the A grade if we planned for longer term AFL success rather than instant strength.

Go back further there are people alive who saw some or nearly all of these GF's.
Fos non playing 3-6
Fos the player 6-1
Motley 1-0
That's 10-7

6 of our 2nd's weren't lost GF's but finishing 2nd prior to 1898 when the league system was used. Also for 3 or 4 years in the 1920's the SANFL had some Mickey Mouse system that if you finished second and didn't make the GF you were still given 2nd place. We got 2 of these in 1920's.
By the same token Norwood had won basically half their flags prior to 1907 in the time of Knickerbockers. Ports absolutely dominated the 20th century.

That was the day I realised this wasn't a serious competition and I never recovered my love for the game since.

The 2014 prelim final umpiring should have awoken the suspicion, if not the 2012 grand final umpiring where the Swans won in spite of some disgracefully biased umpiring, or the second half umpiring of the Port v Cats final at the MCG in 2013.

Port were also crucified in the 99 final v North at the G.

In fact go back to the 93 prelim final - the Crows had one free kick in the second half of that game. It was undoubtedly rigged.

I have many more pre-2016 examples I could list that demonstrate this competition has never been legitimate since it went 'national'.

Sure. But imo none where as blatant as 2016 (and I wasn't around AFL prior to 2000). Also, looking at it as a neutral added to my conviction is was actually rigged, as you can never trust your bias when Port is involved.

Those days even if we lost a GF everyone knew a win was around the corner.
All down to solid management who was prepared to make hard calls no matter what.
Fast forward to the 21century and the club has deteriorated into retirement village for no hopers.

Port v Melbourne 2024 at AO was another example of umpires able to shift momentum!

She's taking the piss now.

I’d agree with what she’s saying.
They have been smashed in there last two grand finals, no surprise he’s not coaching next year.

It’s wild how blessed the club was for backmen in those first so many years.

• Didn’t pick Nathan Bassett for the inaugural squad

• Traded Tom Harley for magic beans

• Let Joel Patfull (then considered very much a forward) wither on the vine

• Gave a trial to Nick Maxwell, “we’ll call you m8”

• Didn’t really rate Stephen Gilham, “play in a flag at Hawthorn”
Adam Heuskes was our first ever All Australian in our debut year in 1997 and we traded him to Brisbane 12 months later and he played all 25 games for the Lions and finished equal fifth in the best and fairest in a team that made it to a preliminary final in 1999.

She was wanking on about how much pressure AFL coaches are on and that nobody wants AFL head coaching jobs anymore etc on the AA sports show yesterday. She didn't use he favourite hyperbolic word - shattered, but I think she snuck in a devastated. She blamed the AFL for this.

I'm listening and I'm thinking to myself, how come you don't hear all this woe are the poor coaches in Euro soccer and North American sports media. They are under so much more pressure, so many in 1 team cities. Sure a lot of them get paid a lot better than AFL coaches, but the pressure is just as high, and I suspect a lot higher in the majority of cases.

But if she is nice to the coaches, they might talk to her and give her some good gossip.

lol this is literally all it is. She's nice to the ones who give her info and actively promote a relationship with her. Those who shut up shop are just targeted at will. Really shows how much of a sieve we are. I think this may be some of the reason we get treated with kid gloves all the time and we're left feeling gaslit.

I think there might’ve been some other issues at play with this trade.

Gonna get canned for this.... but it such a female perspective. It's a ****ing man's sport. Be a man. Take it like a man..

What she said about Hinkley having a strong sook on the high pressures of coaching in Adelaide to David Koch sounds about right though & it was awhile ago. The guy gives off every sign of being cooked.

Was listening to SEN a few days ago - think Healey's arvo show and they were talking about why would St Kilda rookie Matt Brad Crouch, if he is going to retire because of injury.

A caller rang up and explained it, that if he is a rookie, then the rookie base payment amount, which in 2025 is $100,000, is outside the cap, so the effective retirement payment included in the cap is $100k less than it should be in this case. Think the caller called it "cap management."

The AFL has to either get rid of the rookie list or get rid of clubs putting players over say 23 on it. This sort of stuff, just like putting 30 year olds delisted from another club and maybe paying him $250k but only $150k is included in the cap, has to be scrapped and has nothing to do with why the rookie list was invented.

Category B rookies don't have to have an age limit because these are for guys from other sports, overseas or NGA kids.

I reckon the limit should be 25 AFL games, not age. That way you can still have a Podsiadly or a Marlion Pickett start on the roomie list, which is exactly what it's for.

Not bloody Jack Gunston or Lindsay Thomas.
