North win the premiership, basically smashed Brisbane who offensively were non-existent. Maybe we aren't that far behind the top group after all, because North Melbourne are in their own league.
I did think we were much closer to the tingles than the scoreline suggested. Most of their goals were from umpiring. Whether that's bias or us being sloppy is debateable and will be argued differently based on who you support, but in open play we weren't that far off them at all, and that was at the very start of the year.

what about beating Sydney by 730 to 3 and getting smashed a month later? that wasn't just two organic games of footy

Here's a novel idea - you could have something called a playing list where clubs can pick a set number of players and pay them a set amount and that's that.

Only exception would be a supplementary list for project players from other codes, etc, where you would also be allowed a set number with a set amount of pay.
I wouldn't even have a set number of players, just a minimum.

Something like 45 senior list players, with across a 3 year period you have to pay all your cap (so could go 95, 95, 110 for example). Outside that, no minimum or maximum salary. If you don't have the stars deserving of big salaries, then have a few more players on the list, and see which will improve and be worth keeping.

No minimum salary cap if you want to pay 50% pay 50% ridiculous that Richmond and West Coast are paying basically the same salary cap as Brisbane.

The AFLPA will never allow this.

I mean that's great and all but the AFL exists to do what the clubs want. The AFLPA are like any other union until I see them strike over it and go through the courts I would like for the AFL to show some common sense in regards to the rules they make.

That game was also famous for the little tap of encouragement that one of the umpires gave on Lindsay Thomas’s bum when he was lining up for goals after being awarded a rather dubious free kick which Lindsay converted, of course!
Yeah, that was the days when Lindsay Thomas was the darling of Vic AFL media.
Even with that free lick discrepancy North Melbourne only won by a tiny margin.
Although my memories are a bit stretched these days, there was another interesting fact from that game was that Port’s coach for the day was not Hinkley as he was tucked up in his own bed back in Adelaide with a bad case of the flu. I’m not sure which assistant took over that day, maybe Nicks or Hocking or Bassett?

Its Bailey Smith.

Has a clothing design deal with them.
I was thinking back to another example of this sort of thing, I thought it was also with Cotton On, but it was the Chris Judd, Carlton and Visy episode I was trying to think of.

I always felt Judd's contributions to the cardboard industry have been undersold. He certainly had a lot of similarities to a piece of cardboard at the very least.

Uncapped Fremantle key forward Odin Jones has been dealt a cruel blow before his 2025 has even started, with the club ruling him out of action for the entirety of next season. The 19-year-old was involved in a freak accident at his friends house in the middle of last month, spending multiple weeks in hospital to assist with his recovery. His fall resulted in a fractured vertebrae, resulting in his unsurprising addition to the club’s long-term injury list.
