Ah, the benefits of being an international sporting code. The Albanese Government has committed to spending 600 million taxpayer dollars on an NRL team from PNG. The move is designed to head off the Chinese in PNG by preventing the PNG Government from signing a defence agreement with the Chinese.

The new franchise will get $290 million from the deal. Just over 25 years ago Port had to pay 4 million for an AFL licence but these guys are being given 290 million. An example of NRL diplomacy at work. The AFL must be wondering how they can get their hands on some of Albanese's money.

I know we missed out on both Cumming and Perryman, but this was why I would've preferred that we got Perryman.

Mmmm. I had Cumming in my dynasty fantasy league for 3-4 years, so saw more of him than most.

Talent is undeniable, but he seems to have hit a soft-tissue phase where he makes Ryan Burton look like Cal Ripken.

Yeah you don't want to be soft if you're Cumming.

Have we won the 2025 Toyota Australia AFL Premiership sponsored by AAMI and Carlton Draught yet?
Remains to be seen if we did well at the Carlton Draught draft yet.

I'm okay with missing out on him but Cumming made more sense for us than them. Crows loaded up in the off season with a 24, 26 and 28 year old as if they are prime for a premiership assault right now.

Cumming's recent injury suggest that it was a good one to miss i think. Perryman was probably our main target, that one annoys me more because not only did Collingwood get Houston they snatched our main target to replace him.

Hawthorn are gonna be annoyingly good next year. That fresh young exciting coach vibe must be nice.
I actually think they overperformed this year. Went on a big run with momentum and no injuries. Could easily see them middle of the pack next year.

The difference between being pretty high up on the ladder and being an also ran is overrated in this comp. This year there was 4 wins between Geelong in 3rd and Melbourne in 14th. A tougher draw, a few injuries to key players, etc, make all the difference between playing deep in finals and finishing towards the bottom.

They'll go from a bottom 6 draw to a top 6 draw. I haven't checked to see if the AFL has given them a nice easy top 6 draw though..
