If you are after pace there are a couple of speedsters at North who are very exciting. Matt Campbell is the quickest player I've ever seen and would be a very handy small forward option. The other is Leigh Ryswyk, who played 1 game for the Brisbane Lions last year. Great pace off the wing, good foot skills to leading forwards and he knows how to get forward and kick goals as well.
We should look at drafting him if only for the fact his surname is six letters long and doesn't have a vowel. :D :p

Add Adam Cockshell to that list. 19 years of age, 199cm, 102kg. Key forward and can ruck a little. Kicked four goals today and is improving every game. One to keep an eye on. ;)

Went to high school with Adam. :thumbsu:

Didn't realise he was 199cm though, he wasn't that much taller than I was in year 12.

I've been told that the Crows along with West Coast have sent Shane Edwards from North a letter of interest despite him being underused in the under 18 carnival.

A lot of talk about sturt big men, Middleton, Mason and Kurtz.

Kurtz- is a very good ruckman playing in the 18s carnival a few years back, is 21 about 200cm and still very light but has prooved himself as a good quality ruckman by playing 5 or so league games for sturt this year. Not ready for the number 1 ruck spot just yet but works wonderfully with Feast and Deluca when hes back from Port. Can be thrown into the forward line as a tall forward as well. Will be the number one ruckman when Feast retires in the next year or so. Will beat bowen to the number 1 spot because he is fitter and more agile. Future looks bright.

Mason- 198cm 19yr old solidly built key position player. Heavier version of Westhoff. Reminds me of Thurstans. good honest footballer with a terrific work rate and dedication to fitness. CHB is where he shows his real talent and know how. very quick for a big man, sticks to the forwards like glue and with safe hands has a bright future with sturt. Has been knocking on the door for a league birth for a couple of years but had niggling knee injuries resulting in a knee reconstruction this year so expecting him to be red hot in 2007. definatly one to watch for sure.

Middleton- 19yrs old, well over 200cm with a skinny frame this hard working ruckman has huge potential! great leap and good techneque he has been very valuable for sturt in the reserves. Unable to get a league game purely because of his weight. with some time in the gym this kid will be unstoppable and a major head ache for opposition ruckman. Has a very bright futute with the club. If he puts on the weight he will be the package. Should be the second ruckman, teaming up with Kurtz when Feast retires and Delica has secured a spot at Port.Another one to watch.

Any thoughts?

a few some people haven't mentioned:

Davey from south adel. could become a gun jst like his older brother

J. Clayton another great year, does he deserve another crack at AFL??

same goes for Damian Cupido

Davey isn't up to it, barely has an impact for the Panthers. He's 22 and throughout his 44 game career he's only kicked 1.2 goals per game.

Clayton is getting on with age, fantastic ball winner and commitment but there are younger players running around with just as much ability.

A month ago I would’ve said Cupido was a possibility, but he’s been disappointing lately and he really needed a consistent year to have any chance.

Drummond, I think you're onto something this time.

I really do. :thumbsu:

Definatley. I have seen a bit of him and he is very impressive. He can take a pack mark and doesnt mind smothering and putting on tackles.

Cupido - No way. I dont know what he was like today but against the Dogs he spent a fair bit of time on the bench and he is not in great shape. Even the ABC TV boys mentioned his lack of fitness. If this is his idea of doing his best to impress AFL scouts, I'd hate to see his worst efforts.

Yer J.Westhoff is no secret. Very impressive kid - seeing him rise and rise over past year and a bit thru the ranks and is really holding his own at league level. Would have to be the skinniest runt of a forward Ive ever seen but is so nimble and agile. Turns on a 1cent coin, strong mark, quick, and a dead accurate kick. Once he adds 10-15kg to his frame he will be exceptional. He is certainly a player we should look at.

Cockshell is another, better built but not quite the same natural talent.

Davey would be awesome if he was drafted but I think he will always be in his brothers shadow. Is nearly as quick and has the same footy smarts but not as FIT or agile as Aaron.

Westhoff is a very good chance to be drafted. Get him on an ultra protein diet and he might be alright. Plenty of skinny forwards cant impact at AFL level though.

Cockshell im not a fan of. His kicking is a complete roll of the dice. Against Port he had about 8 shots on goal, kicked 3.3 and 3 out on the full. All from 20-35 metres dead in front. Seems to get the ball enough but really has to work on that kicking.

Cupido....looks to me like hes put on about 20 kilos since his time at Essendon. Looks bigger than Rioli ever has been. I cant see him getting back to the AFL and I think he'll end up taking the D Jarman retirement route.

What do people think of Kirkby from the Bays?

Ruory Kirkby has been a pretty good pickup for the Bays. Playing mainly at CHF, has a good grab and has a pretty good workrate. He does hit the ball pretty hard and had busted some packs and taken his fair share of big hits. His kicking for goal sometimes lets him down.

Was rated highly by FootyDraft but slid to the Preseason Draft. Was he delisted by Hawthorn after only one season?

Might get a second chance....might....

Yeah, Cupido's definitely stacked it on. It's hardly a sign that he's serious about returning to the AFL. He's just here for an easy ride - $60K a year (plus a few other perks, I'm sure) to do sweet f.a.

Unfortunately this guys problems are all in his head. He has somehow convinced himself he will be re drafted and will be moving back to Melbourne! Someone with intelligence would have realised that they needed to show up super-fit, and prove to everyone that not only can you kick the occassional bag of goals, but that you can also play in the midfield and contribute every game. There is no way he will be drafted after this season (unless he somehow dominates the rest of this season and takes the Panthers deep into the finals).
If he sorted himself out over the preseason and did everything next year he could still get a shot!

Cupido is just getting bigger and bigger. He is nearly as big as D.Jarman  Has shown he can still play in SOME games but in other games he has gone to sleep and done next to nothing. Not worth it if he won't put the effort in.

Love to see Gavin Hughes get a gig, terrific player who would slot nicely into an AFL midfield.

Luke Slattery is another I rate highly, he has that x-factor that could serve teams wel at AFL level. Love way he goes about it.

Gavin Hughes (Nwd). 180cm, 70kg, 20 years old. Plays on the wing and uses his incredible pace to perfection. Averages about 25 possessions per game and is an extremely damaging player due to his pace and foot skills. Likes to carry the ball and take a few bounces, and often runs forward to kick a few goals.

Bryce Campbell (Nwd). 181cm, 79kg, 21 years old. Plays in the middle and is one of the toughest players you could find. Is extremely courageous and not afraid of the rough stuff. Has just about the best foot skills in the comp and is terrific overhead. Without doubt the best tackler I’ve seen and he averages about 25 possessions.
Both IMO will not be drafted...Hughes is so much an outside player that he's almost out of the ground.
You need more than pace to play AFL and I just don't see anything special that could be developed

Gavin Hughes on the weekend:

14 kicks, 5 marks, 6 handballs, 4 goals, 2 behinds.

:thumbsu:

Oh and Bryce Campbell had 22 possessions, 8 marks and 8 tackles and was named BOG. Gun. :thumbsu:
