I think we will take Rome not in the MSD but as a F/S in 2025 or 2026.

As I wrote in another thread: Why pick him up in 2024 when he would be behind Bergman, Farrell, Jones, DBJ, Sinn, his brother, Burton, Williams, Evans and Atkins for a half back role when we can nominate him in 2025 or 2026 in a weakened draft?

This way we still get to develop him and get him used to our systems and he only takes up a AFL list space when he is a chance to play. In other words, we are simply “storing a nut for the winter” that is three upcoming, compromised drafts.

Is this possible? I thought once a father-son had been overlooked in their first eligible draft, they can no longer be nominated as a father-son in subsequent drafts?

Geoff Parker in his 2024 draft press conference talked about Rome Burgoyne and Lou Montgomery and said they are both still tied to Port as father-sons and we may draft them this year.

I know rules change over 20+ years ago, but Brett Ebert was ignored by 16 clubs in 2001 draft, then we nominated him for father-son in 2002 draft.

A son of an eligible father should always be able to be nominated by the father's club, if they believe he is good enough and will pay the appropriate price, as not everyone progresses at the same speed, and there are plenty of examples of 21, 23 even 26 year olds being drafted for the first time.
