Tradition dictates the following:

Step 1. Swans get towelled up in the pre-season games

Step 2. Bigfooty calls for dumping of certain players based on pre-season form (or lack thereof)

Step 3. Said players are all selected for Round 1 & perform very well

Step 4. Despite winning a couple of pre-season games, Essendon get trounced in Round 1 & plunge into their annual crisis.

It’s like clockwork.
Tradition being upheld. Love it.

Lloyd is a serviceable player but he has never been more than that.
That is just a crazy comment imo. Sure, he is no longer the player he was but to say he has never been very good is just wrong. Just like all the posters here who say that Parker is just a player. Multiple B&Fs between them suggests otherwise.
i couldn't give a rat's arse as to how they played today. It's completely irrelevant. Our past history has proved that we treat practice matches with a grain of salt hence it is ridiculous to be making predictions based on today.
If we perform like this in round 1, go for it but don't get carried away with today.

Wouldn't be too worried, first half was heavily contested against a top shelf side hence the fatigue kicking in the second half.

Second half was a little bit concerning with the drop of the contested game and seemed we ran out of puff. Lions look like a very primed side too.
Rather see these lapses now than during the season. Pretty much a carbon copy of last years praccy vs GWS. We lacked some ball skills too, shows how heavy of an influence it is with our gameplan.

Overall some nice moments, loved the look of Gulden. Like Roberts through the middle and Edwards was nice. Logan was a bit underwhelming, lost his balance a few times against Andrews. Good to see the lads back out on the park at the end of the day, plenty to work on.

The highlight of the game for me was Edwards. Supposed to be a key defender. Played ruck with McAndrew and I thought he won the majority of his contests. Played Key forward and took a great mark in the final quarter. The Reid swingman replacement with the added ability to ruck. Runs through the midfield and tackles mids. I'm onboard and willing to drive the bus. Give him a few years and he will be unstoppable.
