Did he slot a few in the last quarter?

I watched the first half but was out and about afterwards.
Just 1. Then dropped a mark in the pocket from a decent leap with Franklin as a decoy in front of him but immediately got up to stick a tackle and cause a stoppage

That's alright, saw him get burnt by our players a few times early on.

Not worried about this match, we are a few weeks behind in our pre-season and it showed. Should be fine by round 1.

Didn't catch 100% of the game but most of it. Some pretty broad observations on my part:

Gulden looked excellent as a genuine midfielder, his movement around the stoppages and slick skills are very exciting.

Rowbottom started the game excellently, looking very physical around the ball.

Stephens and McInerney looked good up and down the wings. Looked to be covering a lot of ground both of them. If we can get McInerney back to full fitness this year, he'll be valuable.

McAndrew did a really solid job in the ruck against two genuine senior rucks in McInerney and Fort. Definitely something to work with this year and I'd hope he gets given full ruck duties week in, week out in the 2's to boost his development. His tap work, follow-up play, and tackling all flashed to me.

Mills' role was interesting. Started a number of centre bounces across HF. Spent some time drifting into defence. Seemed a very generalist role where he goes all over the ground. I'd love to see more of him as a forward but we're jammed for talent up there.

Liked Will Edwards, he flashes off the screen physically. Something to work with there.

I'm waiting for Campbell to flash more consistently. Played the full game on Charlie Cameron which is interesting - I'm not sure if the strategy is to continue teaching him to play defensively and wait for his offensive output to pop, but he laid a few kicks out today which underline his talent. I'd prefer the leash to be taken off him soon. He looked a little constrained as a back pocket.

Chad Warner looked like he was pressing a little too hard. Nothing I'd worry about, just looked like he was trying a little too much. Even so, you can see physically he stands out from the pack. Spent a bit of time deep in the forward line which is interesting.

Saw some big defensive efforts from Sheldrick across HF. I'd like to get him into the round 1 side personally.

My general observations:

* Errol looked great

* Our tall forwards didn't have much impact but Logan is a cluey footballer and has a sharp handball (even if handballing isn't what we drafted him for)

* Given that all of Clarke, Wicks, Konstanty (and even Magor) are injured, I think Sheldrick is a huge chance to be selected round 1. I noticed Sheldrick spent most of the game playing forward. What stood out was how often he got himself into space. This was largely the result of hard work and good spreading. Watches and reads the play well too.

* I wasn't as impressed with McAndrew as others seem to be but I think there's a real chance he's going to have to play AFL this year given our injuries

* I also thought Francis was a bit meh. Had some ok moments, and others where I was yelling at him as he went to ground. Right now he seems to be the frontrunner to replace Blakey unless they get Campbell to do it (which would make sense because given they both offer footspeed and sweet kicking they are more similar roles even if they are physically totally different). With the McCartins plus Rampe plus Fox, we have plenty of coverage for talls.

* Edwards was played a bit everywhere but I wonder what chance he is of being called up if our injury woes continue?

* Gould has a back injury, which is why he's only playing seconds. Don't know if he's any chance for round 1 but not looking too good.

* I didn't sight Blakey by the time I left early in the 4th quarter. He wasn't with the other injured players on the boundary. Nor was Konstanty.

* Good to see Roberts get given quality game time. I don't see him as best 22/3 but it's great exposure for when he is called up.

So impressive was Edwards raw ability to compete in the ruck against a seasoned Brisbane ruck, and
play as a key tall and take marks(I know we are short on talls atm), and
run through the midfield and compete with mids and harass and tackle,
I predict he is the missing piece of the puzzle.

What is the puzzle you may ask?

We have the solid defence. And its being bolstered despite an immanent departure(Rampe)
We have a young and very talented and tough evolving midfield
We have a forward line of McDonald, Heeney, Hayward, Papley, add to that Konstanty and others we can roll through there. McLean and Amaertey are underwhelming. But they are not essential. There are also developing options in HHK and Magor, you can add Sheldrick and others.

But a great ruck is the missing piece.

Could Edwards be the saviour.

Well that's it from me.

I just wanted to create some discussion and dream.
