Buckley said we are a team of "no names" last year so clearly couldn't bother doing research during the off season and King was bullish on our list last year but clearly think all these "half a dozen injured players" are out long term.

Why would anyone care what their predictions are? If we could rely on them they wouldn’t all have differing opinions. As for us, we aren’t a shoe in for the 8 so it’s not an outlandish prediction to see us miss.

Buckley also insisted today that we are a team of 'no name players', which to me suggests he thinks we don't have talent either, not sure how else to take it.

Is it too simple to think they just aren't paying attention, or is there a truth to these comments that I'm too biased to see?

I think we have one of the most talented lists since 1997, more first round talent than ever (directly related to the worst run in history), and have high expectations this year. This view is pretty far from Kingy, but of course he's still bitter about 98.

Buckley's comments were made with a positive spin, and he actually named his "no names". This probably just makes the same point as StickerMan . The players who are driving our results/ improvement are up and comers who haven't yet made a name for themselves. Which suggests that the improvement will continue.

King etc just haven't done their homework.

Combine that with if Tex drops off, then we could have a tough season ahead.

I must be too biased to see it too. Alot of these guys mightn’t be no name by the end of the season - especially with the better scheduling.

We also still had 2 players in the top 15 for the Brownlow and the runner up for the Coleman last year.

A lot of local bias too. They just dont see as much non-Vic footy or talk about it as much as they talk about Vic footy.

Esp weaker non-Vic non-finals teams, as we have been for years now.

I agree. He's one of those special commentators that is actually quite good at game day analysis, but for all the info he can gather, is still awful at predictions.

I think it's interesting hearing the "No Name team", or "lack of Star Power" being linked to us.

It's crazy to me that these football "analysts" don't and aren't required to watch all 9 games every week

Some of the stuff they say shows they clearly don't actually watch the matches, or even highlights, or even just the news about each club

If I was working in the field I'd be watching every game and taking comprehensive notes including knowing best 22s and entire squads. The sport isn't even on for like 20 weeks in the year, that's more than enough time to be fully researched for round 1
