Re: Who will we try and get in the PSD?

If he is the best available, we will grab him. I hope we either go for Collaud or Pounish or take a punt on a kid from this years draft as a PSD pick (pehaps take a punt on a KPP backman (project)

How many small FP players do you want?

WTF is Pounish?

I hope you don't mean Mourish.

Yeah I meant Mourish (it has been a long day, I started work at 5am today FFS). I see most of our forwards as midfielders anyway, Mourish could be worth a punt as a PSD selection. Hardly the worst selection!

For these guys to get delisted after only a year, something is obviously not right - especially in the case of Collard who supposedly has immense talent.

Would stay away from them.

We need a backup ruckman and a running half back like Heath Shaw or Heath Scotland.

Heath Hocking did running off the half back flank with Bendigo, don't know if he will be as good as he was there when he's playing at AFL level.

We need to draft a ruckman because we delisted Mckinnon and all we have now is Hille and Laycock (Ryder's better off half back anyway's).

But whoever knights gets I'm happy with.

Please excuse my ignorance, but maybe someone can help my understanding of the system.

If Brennan wants to play at Essendon and we make him the highest offer, that doesn't actually effect the way he's drafted does it? Isn't it just the earliest club in the order that wants him, gets him? Or does the amount offered have some sway on it?

I just get the impression that if Essendon make a high offer, the other clubs have to match it to get him or something. Doesn't make sense in my head, that's just what seems to be coming across from what i'm reading.

Could someone please clear this up for me? Cheers.

prior to the psd the afl assesses total player payments for each club and ascertains if a club is able to draft a player or not. if a player names a price the club must be able to fit him in under the salary cap. some clubs are not allowed the full 100% salary cap at the moment due to allowances etc.

Re: Who will we try and get in the PSD?

collard was excellent for wa u18 last year - his style reminded me of kane cornes a lot. freo are morons for delisting him ahead of webster/mcmanus

I dont think they delisted him becasue of his ability. ;)

The Saga Is Over! Brennan Signs For Another 3 Years.

Jared Brennan stays with Brisbane Lions

BRISBANE'S laid-back lifestyle and Jared Brennan's love of rugby league have convinced the star utility to sign a new three-year deal with the Lions.
After five seasons at Brisbane, Brennan had been a target for at least four clubs, including Essendon, the team he supported as a boy.
Richmond, Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs were also in the market for the 23-year-old.
However it was Brisbane's lifestyle that pushed him back into a Lions jumper until the end of the 2010 season.
"Being able to walk into a shopping centre without being noticed and watching the NRL on Friday nights are big for me," Brennan said last night.
An early-morning coffee with Brisbane coach Leigh Matthews on Tuesday set the wheels in motion for Darwin-born Brennan to continue his 59-game career with the Lions.
The No. 3 pick at the 2002 AFL draft, Brennan wanted to clarify where he fitted in Matthews' long-term plans and what his role would be.
"Leigh was direct with me, which was what I wanted," Brennan said.
"I was 80 per cent sure I was staying with Brisbane after I first met with him a couple of weeks ago and now I'm totally sure.
"It could even mean playing like Darryl White did: across the wing, up forward, down back.
"It's taken a while to get the deal done and there was a chance I'd go to a Melbourne club.
"Essendon was a favourite because a lot of my family and friends barrack for them back in Darwin and, of course, I used to go for them."
Brennan would not reveal the financial details of the deal, other than to say he was very pleased with the result.
"I'm at Brisbane until 2010 and probably a long while after that," he said.
"I'd like to play the rest of my career out with the Lions and follow in the footsteps of Darryl White, who played 268 games with the club.
"It was important I got some security for myself, my wife Sharai and young daughter Leila and I've done that."

There's no way we'd take him. Yes he's got all the ability in the world but He's obviously off the rails

Freo fans saying Ryley Dunn has been delisted. Still rated highly by Longy and a few others on here...

Dunn was drafted at number 10 in the '03 draft. Never really got a look in at the Dockers. He did struggle with a few injuries though. He would be a certainty to be re-drafted by a Victorian club in my mind. You could do a lot worse than him with a late pick. At least you know what you're getting.

I believe the max for vets is 2.

Seems you have quiet a few fighting for the list though;)

That's a misperception, only 3 possible, Michael wouldn't be eligible because he hasn't been on the list for 10 years and I'm not quite sure if Lloyd would be 30 within the cut-off date. That leaves Lucas and Fletcher.

We only have 6 players (including J Johnson who won't get a game!) that are 28 and over, that's the same as Richmond (Mathew Richardson, Nathan Brown, Kane Johnson, Troy Simmonds, Joel Bowden and Greg Tivendale)!

This surprises you doesn't it, from all the media saying how old our list is and how young Richmond's is?

Ashley Sampi

UNSETTLED West Coast forward Ashley Sampi has played his last game for the Eagles, after telling the club today he wanted to reignite his stalled AFL career somewhere else.
Sampi was due to have a fitness test with West Coast today, after returning to Perth following an extended sabbatical in the north of Western Australia.

But after the player declined to take the fitness test, West Coast issued a statement saying the club and player had agreed it was in the interests of both parties he "seek opportunities with another club".
"That was the result of a discussion between senior coach John Worsfold and Sampi, who was to have undergone a fitness test at the club," the statement said.
"Ashley elected not to do the test and indicated he would like to explore the possibility of continuing his career at another club," an Eagles statement said.
"We agreed that it would probably be in his best interests to go down that path, so he will be de-listed by our club when our list is lodged with the AFL tomorrow.
"We wish Ashley every success as he strives to get his career on track and thank him for his contribution to our club over the last six years."
Sampi, selected with pick No.6 in the 2001 draft, played 78 games with the club, and showed in patches the talent that earned the mark of the year in 2004 and almost won him a Ross Glendinning Medal for the four goals in a western derby against Fremantle in 2003.
But after losing his place in the team on the eve of the 2006 finals, Sampi did not play a senior game in 2007 after being effectively suspended for being overweight,
He was then granted his wish to return to Broome after struggling to come to terms with the death of a cousin, only returning to Perth in late September.
Sampi's agent, Anthony van der Wielen, has previously confirmed the 23-year-old would nominate for the pre-season draft if cut.

We should go for him IMO! Perhaps this is what he needed to put his mind back on football. As you've read, he hasn't had the easiest of times.

Re: Ashley Sampi

I don't know much nabout Sampi but my understanding is that he is predominantly (if not soley) a forward which leads to the same problem we've had in the past that we have too many forwards and not enough space in the forward line.

Agreed, and if that isn't enough I don't think we want blokes who don't show up to fitness tests, for the reason, I'm guessing, he couldn't be bothered getting into shape after saying he will...

Small forward (crumming forward)..which we don't have that many of. We have a lot of talls- Lucas, Lloyd, Gumbleton, Neagle, etc)

We need a small forward if Monfries is going to play on the ball... alternatively Sampi has the pace and skill to be a premier onballer IMO!

He has plenty to offer... he has more skill than most players on our list IMO! Naturally gifted!

I think he was looking for a change of scenery, he has many memories in Perth and unfortunately not all of them are positive!

I'd draft him in a heartbeat! :thumbsu:

I would rather Jetta in as our second small forward because it sounds like hes been putting in the hard yards since he has got his injury right and how would he feel if a bloke who has been delisted because he didn't show to a fitness test took that spot...
